Beautiful.
An amazing set with great design accuracy to the Dune movie. Really challenging to put together but also incredibly satisfying. It ends up being really big, about 2 ft long, and is a perfect gift for anyone who loves Dune and LEGO.
Very fun building experience!
This set is definitely worth it, in my opinion. The combination with Technic makes features like the folding landing gear and wing control possible. It's very ingeniously put together, and it's fun to see how everything comes together during the building process. With approximately 4 hours of building time, you get a very cool result. And not to forget that this is currently the only LEGO Dune set. Also, for fans of Dune, it's definitely worth it!
A Display-Worthy Gem
Solid design, model accuracy, and iconic styling make this set stand out. I pre-ordered and it arrived on time without issue. There are countless LEGO builds out there, but this one feels special—truly worthy of public display.Build Experience:Assembly complexity is on par with other adult sets—engaging but manageable. The design choices are thoughtful throughout, and if you have spare pieces, you can easily customize aesthetic details (e.g., replacing visible red pins) for an even cleaner finish.Value:Given the model’s accuracy and display quality, the price is justified. It’s a strong addition for both Dune enthusiasts.Verdict:Highly recommended—both as a rewarding build and as a centerpiece for display.
QC had the day off
My daughter and I were really excited for this build…. Then we opened the box.
First the QR code to register our set was completely smeared and unable to scan to register it which kinda stunk but not a huge deal. There were multiple missing pieces (thankfully we have a large collection to pull from, minus the set specific pieces), pages missing…. correction, pages printed out of order, and crumpled cape for the Baron (we lightly ironed to get it slightly better).
Overall it’s a cool set and was fun once we got past the multiple issues we had with this set. Pretty disappointed in the quality of this set though.
Looks even better in real life
This is an incredible build. It's amazing how they fit the mechanism to fold and flap the wings, the landing gear, and the back ramp inside the small body. It also just looks fantastic; even better than in the product images. Having all of the first film's characters in mini figures is pretty cool too. I hope they do more Dune vehicles, like the Spice Harvester, or the ominous Harkonnen ship from the start of Part 2.
Extremely fun to build.
It's a great experience to assemble it and the mechanism for positioning and deploying the wings is incredible, as well as the mechanism for the landing gear. If you're a fan of this great and epic movie, you should definitely have it in your collection.
Amazing set, with flaws
This build is amazing. Let's get that out of the way first. The techniques and mechanisms were quite interesting and very enjoyable to build. But the set has a few issues.
The biggest issue I have, is that all the new wing elements came warped. They all bend to one side. And they all bend the same direction. This is fine for one side of the craft as it is somewhat hidden by the natural give from other components, but on the other side it is accentuated by the same give in the mechanisms.
The second issue is that this model is peppered, once again, with technicolor technic axels and technic pins. It really stands out in a build that is mostly monochrome.
Wonderful
Great set to build. It was my first adult LEGO set, and as a big fan of Dune, it was a perfect fit. I spent a few evenings enjoying it for about an hour.
ornichopter
This was a great gift for my partner. He really enjoyed building it, and he plays with it every day.
Great overall look and feel
The designers did a great job getting the functionality of the wings to fit the structure of the build. My only complaint is how visible the red and blue pins are on the wings. They stand out too much for a vehicle that should be completely dark colors. There are also two bright orange pins visible from the side. I made a separate order for black pins to at least replace the bright red. I also replaced Paul’s hair with the same mold the Hobbits use but in black. Other than that, the whole thing looks great and the minifigure selection is generous. You could easily put this together in the time it takes to watch both movies.
More things to build.
The LEGO set itself is a fun set to build. What Bol could do better is the seller, to better protect the product. Some expensive sets shouldn't be in a box so loosely.
Just a hair away from perfection
This build is amazing, and with the amazing play features made by a marvel of technic engineering, along with the sleek design and fabulous minifigure selection, this set is an easy candidate for best set of 2024 (so far.) I love this set, and the way I see it, it only has two flaws. A lot of people complained about having a mostly technic model on a system set, but I personally disagree with that complaint. Technic models are fun to build, and the internal technic design is what gives the model its structural integrity and amazing play features. However, it does annoy me that Lego decided to use so many colorful technic parts in red and blue and even a little orange and yellow that show on the exterior and are quite distracting. Lego really should've used more discretely colored technic pins, axles, and ball joints. I don't think it's a huge deal, because hobbyists like myself who want their exposed technic elements in black or gray can simply purchase them separately and add them to their Lego Ornithopter. (If you are planning to do this, I strongly recommend incorporating your black and gray technic elements during the build process, there are several exposed colorful elements that are very difficult to replace once the model is all put together.) But I think people who are willing to go out and buy these parts in alternate colors still shouldn't have to, they should've just been incorporated into the set initially, because the colored elements significantly sacrifice the astestics. My second complaint is a lot more minor and probably would've been more difficult on Lego's end to incorporate into this set, but I think that the Baron Harkonnen figure looks a little strange with the inside of his massive cape being left white instead of being printed black like the outside of the cloth element is. In Dune, the entire robe is very obviously black, and it gives the illusion that the Baron is very tall because the robe covers his everything from his neck down except is arms, disguising his legs and his true height. I'm not asking Lego to cover up the side of the cape to accomplish this, as it would probably be very difficult and would require completely redesigning the long cape element, but I do think they really needed to print the inside of the cape black and that would've accomplished this goal very nicely. Overall, it's a great set, just with the two flaws. These flaws are only prevalent enough to knock just one star of my rating, because this model is gorgeous and I'm very happy to have this iconic piece from the Dune films and several of the main characters in minifigure form. Way to go Lego!
Far better than ever thought it would be
I purchased this originally as just something different to build and I am very happy I did. It turned into one of the best builds I have done this year. It looks amazing and the moveable wings and landing gear are a great inclusion.
Good deal, does not come in separate box.
Good deal for the LEGO set, but I didn't receive a separate box. The shipping label was attached to the LEGO box. I tried to remove the label, but unfortunately, it didn't come off cleanly. So, for LEGO collectors who want to keep the box intact, this might not be the best deal.
Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter
As a film fan, I am very happy with the LEGO set I received. Building the Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter took approximately 12 hours due to occasional errors. Therefore, I believe that this set should be assembled by people who have more experience with assembling LEGO sets. The ship looks like the one from the movie, which is a major plus. The details are of the highest level. This is a set with moving parts and a changing appearance. My final rating is 5 stars.
Realistic! This is AMAZING!
As a FAN of the epic film Dune, I could hardly contain my excitement when I saw this Ornithopter building set. This set is a real treat for adults looking for a challenging project.
The first thing that struck me was the incredible level of detail. From the foldable, moving wings to the folding landing gear and the detailed cockpit that can be opened. But it's not just the features of the aircraft that impress. The set comes with 8 minifigures of famous characters from the film, including Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes, Duncan Idaho and Baron Harkonnen in his long robe. With these, you can recreate scenes from the film and create your own stories.
Also, it's a real eye-catcher in your living room with 1369 pieces and an impressive size of approximately 23 cm high, 57 cm long and 79 cm wide!
Amazing Ornithopter Experience
Hats off to the ICON Design team for creating this unique build and toy. As an admirer of Frank Herbert’s books since high school and now with the remake of his story in the new DUNE 1 & 2, this build/toy was a true joy to make and experience. Minifigs are awesome too. Love the Baron!
Must have for any Dune fan and a really fun build
This is a really interesting build with a super strong technic frame underneath that holds the whole thing together and makes it feel really strong. I could hold the thing from the tail and run all around the house pretending to fly it if I wished and everything would stay together rock solid. A pretty quick build which I did in about 5 hours whilst casually watching a couple of films. The finished product is big but it will look good displayed on a shelf or on a wall using a creative wall mount. 10/10 would recommend
For fans of Dune!
Very nice to put together, with many well-designed and technically sound parts. A beautiful final result! A pleasure for the eyes.
Joyful and easy to put together
The day when package arrived, the most happiest was my 6y old. He can't wait when he can start. We know tahat on package says 18+ but even 6y old can manage it with a little bit help from his mom. It took about 7-8 hours (two nights) to finish it. He can't wait when he get new challenge to handle. Wery easy and simple instructions.
