Kruidvat is a drugstore, not a toy shop. The fact that you can buy LEGO there is more a side-effect of its broad assortment than a deliberate specialism. Still, Kruidvat has one quirk that makes it worth keeping an eye on: the occasional buy-one-get-one-free promotion on toys. When that promotion includes a LEGO set you already wanted, Kruidvat becomes the cheapest option in the Netherlands at that moment. Outside those moments, there is no reason to make a special trip.
Track prices at Kruidvat via the Kruidvat retailer page on BricksDeal.
Extra check before checkout
For Kruidvat, the question is narrow: is the LEGO set actually inside a toy promotion, and can you use the second item? I count a 1+1 deal only when both sets are eligible, in stock and useful to you.
| Check | Why it matters | What I would do |
|---|---|---|
| Promotion scope | Not every toy action includes every LEGO set | Check the flyer terms and the exact product page |
| Second set | The effective price only works if the second item has value | Pair two wanted sets instead of buying filler |
| Stock | Kruidvat promo stock can disappear fast | Buy early or order online as soon as the action starts |
| Price history | Half-price language can still hide a weak base price | Compare the effective set price against the last 30-90 days |
Before checkout, open the same set on BricksDeal and compare the effective per-set price. Kruidvat wins only when the promotion math still beats normal retailer prices.
What Kruidvat actually stocks
The range runs to 20 to 40 LEGO sets depending on the season. Typically present:
- City: small sets such as police cars and fire engines, up to around 40 euros.
- Friends: small and medium sets up to around 50 euros.
- Minecraft: starter packs, generally up to 30 euros.
Everything above that price or beyond those themes is absent. No Technic flagship, no Star Wars, no Icons, no Ninjago mechs. If you are looking for a specific set, the odds are good that Kruidvat simply does not carry it.
The 1+1 free promotion: how it works
Kruidvat typically runs one or two periods per year with a “Toys 1+1 free” promotion. This falls in October or November as part of the Sinterklaas run-up. When LEGO is included, which is not guaranteed every year, you effectively pay 50 percent of the retail price per set.
On a City set at 30 euros, that means: two sets for 30 euros total. No other Dutch retailer matches that at that moment.
Two things to know: the promotion only applies to sets listed in the flyer, and stock is limited. By Saturday morning the shelf can already be empty. Come early, or order online the moment the promotion goes live.
Compared with the alternatives
| Situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Kruidvat has 1+1 free on the set you want | Kruidvat: no contest |
| You want a set above 60 euros | Bol.com or Amazon.nl |
| You want an 18+ set | Bol.com or LEGO.com |
| You need immediate availability but no Kruidvat promotion is running | Intertoys |
| You want the sharpest price with no active promotion | BricksDeal comparison |
Two things Kruidvat does not offer
No gift wrapping. Intertoys wraps gifts in-store. Kruidvat does not. For a Sinterklaas gift, that is a real drawback.
No easy LEGO returns. The Kruidvat returns process for non-food items is less smooth than Bol.com. For a damaged or wrong set, Bol.com is simply easier to deal with.
When Kruidvat is worth it
One scenario: the 1+1 free promotion falls on a set you already wanted, and you can use a second set as a gift or for yourself. Then you buy: even if the assortment is small. In every other situation, Kruidvat is a chance encounter rather than a deliberate destination.
How BricksDeal tracks Kruidvat
BricksDeal measures Kruidvat prices daily, including during promotion periods. When a 1+1 promotion is active at Kruidvat, you will see it in the per-set price comparison. We treat 1+1 deals as an effective per-set price only when both sets are eligible, in stock and useful enough that you would have bought them separately. Historical patterns are based on 2024-2025 observations.
Compact sets under gift budget
Small LEGO sets that fit drugstore promotions, stocking gifts and quick price drops.
Best for each buyer type
Small-set checks for the only Kruidvat scenario that matters: a real toy promotion with enough stock left.
Forest Tea Party
Forest Tea Party is the Kruidvat check because small sets can become genuinely cheap during a 1+1 toy week.
Tomatohead
Tomatohead makes sense here only when you can use the second item as another gift or stocking filler.
Mountain Bike Adventure Van
Mountain Bike Adventure Van is worth checking for a surprise promo, but Kruidvat stock is too narrow for a normal display-set hunt.
Ultron vs. Iron Man
Set an alert for Ultron vs. Iron Man; if it appears in a Kruidvat toy action, the effective price can move fast.
When is Kruidvat worth it?
Kruidvat is exactly one scenario: outside that scenario there is no reason to make a special trip.
-
Check the flyer
Is LEGO in the 1+1 free deal?
Check the weekly Kruidvat flyer or the BricksDeal price comparison: only when LEGO is explicitly included in the toys buy-one-get-one-free promotion is Kruidvat the best option in the Netherlands.
-
Deal confirmed
Go early or order online immediately
Stock during 1+1 promotions is limited: by Saturday morning the shelf can already be empty: arrive early or order the moment the promotion goes live online.
-
No active promotion
Go to Bol.com or Intertoys instead
Outside promotion periods Kruidvat sits at market price without the extras: no gift wrapping, no broad range, no reason to make a special trip.
-
Set above 40 euros
Kruidvat probably doesn't have it
The range tops out around 60 euros and focuses on City, Friends and Minecraft: for larger sets or other themes, Kruidvat is the wrong address regardless.
