Even if it's a gift for a 43-year-old, it's still a big success!
My grandson (11 years old) was very happy with this beautiful building set! He started building it right away. We first sorted all the small pieces so he could easily find the right ones. The instructions are very clear with pictures, but he occasionally needed help from my friend (who also wanted to help with this beautiful design). He worked on it for a while, but it went quite smoothly. It's a beautiful model, and my grandson immediately tested it in the bathtub ;-) Later, he took it to the pond where it floated nicely, which was fun to see the sails "work". He wants to convert it into a speedboat. I'm going to buy another one so he doesn't have to take the catamaran apart, and that way he'll have double the fun.
The LEGO Technic Catamaran set is a beautiful set that, as you would expect from LEGO, is technically and very well made. As soon as the set arrived, we started building it. The set does require some technical knowledge, as it can be difficult for a child younger than the recommended age to assemble it. Our 9-year-old daughter was unable to assemble the set without help. Our 11-year-old son had less difficulty and quickly assembled the speedboat. You can assemble the catamaran using the included instructions. You can download the instructions for the speedboat via the LEGO app on your phone, which you can install via a QR code in the instructions. The instructions for the speedboat can also be found on the LEGO website. Building the catamaran is a task that takes time, but thanks to the clear instructions, it is quite easy. It is also very fun that the catamaran and speedboat stay afloat well. Of course, our children have thoroughly tested this in the bathtub. The attachment of the catamaran's sail is not very strong. I am afraid that it will break quite quickly. So far, our children are very happy with the set and it is guaranteed for many hours of playing, building, and sailing fun!
I bought this set for my 10-year-old son. He is really into boats and LEGO. It was a big surprise for him when he opened the box. It was also his first technical LEGO set. The set is, as expected from LEGO, very sturdy. The instructions were easy for him to follow. It's also great to see how LEGO adds moving elements to the set. A big plus for this set is that it can float. He has already spent many hours in the pool with it. It's also nice to see how moving the rudders increases the stability. Educational!
Our 7-year-old son was thrilled with this set! And although it was sometimes a bit challenging for him to get the technical aspects completely right, he finished it within a day. The catamaran is very large, with great, sturdy sails. There are Technic LEGO handles to operate the sails, turn the rudder, and lower the legs underneath the boat for extra stability in the water. The whole set feels a bit "wobbly", but he needs this for the waves when you put it in the water. We of course also tested this, and even in quite a bit of wind, the catamaran remained perfectly stable in the water. Highly recommended!
