Great, versatile street elements to make LEGO cities more complete.
These are a huge improvement over old road plates. Upgrade your roads in your Lego city with these road plates in combination mills plating.
Well not many other options if you are staying true to brand. Improvements needed: more tile, corners, reasonably priced additional pieces (not $5.00 a plate), I could go on but won’t. The speed champions accommodate more of a correct scale at 8 studs wide, however; these plates are just wide enough for a 6 stud vehicle. There are ways to widen these over the old base plate system but, at $19.99 per then add plates and tile to do so. Not a good value. I only buy these when I can get them below that price.
Initially I bought a few for my town. Then I did a little price comparing. I am someone who also designs practical LEGO and the cost of the large plates are much more from pick a brick. These plates I have used in dozens of creations. They come in real handy.
I ordered this set because I wanted to see what the hype was about. I'm still glad that I did purchase it unfortunately it was not what I expected. I definitely do not recommend purchasing this for a five or six year old! You literally get just enough pieces to create what is on the cover of the box. Yes you can rearrange pieces but if you do that hopefully you have enough pieces for what you're trying to achieve. For the price I feel they should have added some extra pieces. Even my 17-year-old asked me "Where's the sidewalk?" I then had to explain to him the only way to create a sidewalk is to use a base plate underneath these roads and attach them and then build the sidewalk up which obviously would use many bricks that does not come with the set. Each road piece is 16x16 which equals the size of 1/4 of a regular base plate. These roads do not and should not replace regular base plates as again in order to have a sidewalk you need to build up off of a normal base plate. The pictures I will attach the base plates underneath are not included they're just for show. But I built the road as it looks exactly on the box and then added some vehicles to show how that would look. If you are going to buy the set be prepared to purchase more than one especially if you plan on building any sort of street or City. I hope you find this review helpful!
I did, and this has 'em. Nice and simple, makes my city look better when drop set into a MILS plate.
Very fun to use with LEGO Creator Expert buildings. Traffic signs and lighting with glow-in-the-dark are fun to use.
When my son and I connect these plates together the plate I just put on falls off. They don’t stick well. My son plays on the carpet a lot and it’s pointless having the road plates at times. I started getting into modular buildings and the road isn’t even level with them. To get it to work you have to fudge around. Lego needs to get this together because they messed the road plates system up. Make it thinner and easier to connect
Firstly when i unpacked this set i was so happy. A lot of road plates and flowers signs. When i build everything i was even more happy. And then i saw biggest problem. I wanted to connect it with other lego set and i was not able to find two pieces that connects road. After two hours of thinking i find only one way to find them and this way is to destroy some of road. Next day i take out one road plate and take everything i need. And rebuild in my way. So im happy with this set. And recommend to everyone.
These new road plates are amazing. I really liked this kit. I will be ordering more in future.
Bought these, but is impossible to join any of the sets together without connector pieces. Could you please add spare connector pieces to the boxes you sell for any new sets with these new roads. I have tried to source the connectors separately, but the Lego shop doesn’t sell them in their brick wall, and I don’t want to pay a fortune to get a handful from Lego spare parts (have to pay picking fees/handling unless I order something over $150 AND over $20 of pick a brick online)
I love these but have a suggestion. Maybe provide an option without the Pedestrian crossing, as these become wasted pieces in my spares drawer. Only need a few so maybe have two sets. Also that would mean reducing the amount of speed bump and giving you flat 2 x 4 plates to use instead.
Don't buy it, it is not compatible with other LEGO road plates. It is too narrow for 2 cars. It is expensive. Come on LEGO, make some wider road plates that can fit 2 cars with some space, and also make it cheaper so we can buy it and play with it.
Love the new road plates endless modification can be done to these thanks lego..
I bought this mostly to display my various vehicles on. It has some neat details with two road signs and two street lights. There are no stickers and quite a few printed pieces, which is a huge plus for me. They have some plants and trees for visual appeal, and it was fun to place my cars on it and snap some quick pictures. It is also modular with the road being in 4 sections you can sort of move around. You can have a turn, a big straightway, or a junction. The only real complaint was the foilage. You get two trees and two flowers. With the road signs you have two fairly bare green plates that simulate grass. Some more plants would have really made that set pop, but for the price I was very happy with what it provided.
I started off not wanting to make a LEGO city with my modular buildings. Mostly due to the fact that the old road plates took up so much room. When I tried out these new road plates: it was a blessing. I immediately went back to get more. The only problem I had was that the plate was a bit taller than the modular buildings sidewalk. It was an easy problem to solve using spare pieces.
Great way to start a Lego City! Fantastic that it can link together with different options to connect in to strait roads, T intersections or a 4-way junction.
I want to start with the fact that I love this set, however there are some glaring issues with it that cause me to give it a lower score than you might this with that opening. I would give it 3.5 if I could, but I rounded up. I could see this as amazing if you have a city on a table, but try to play with it on the carpet and you will spend more time mending it than playing with it. This can be remedied by adding some bricks to the bottom, but they are not really fully made for that. Would be nice if there was a groove to put them in. Though you could put them on a large plate (like you see in my pictures). What that all boils down to is the fact that though you could fix the issue, it would take a lot of additions to do it. The set is an amazing price and has some unique parts that I love like the glow in the dark bricks and the street signs. Also, if I ever do create a city on a hard table I will most likely get a bunch if these for the roads. But till then, I'm gonna figure out the most cost effective way to use this on carpet.
I thought I would buy a couple of these to see what the fuss was about and WOW! This new road system is so much fun and true to what Lego is all about – imagination and creativity. Playability – My 5-year-old daughter loves them and had so much fun driving around the roads. The traffic lights, zebra crossing and road signs included add so much to the play factor as well as being educational. Compatibility – We immediately added the petrol station and a Speed Champions Mini garage (and since a hospital and airport terminal) and they looked fantastic and were easy to integrate. Though the baseplates are narrow we have used the spare tiles wisely to add an extra stud to either lane and the road copes with 6 stud vehicles easily. Creativity – The big jump forward here is the flexibility that is only limited by your imagination. Dual lanes? Center barrier? Floral displays on the barrier? Drains? Manhole covers? Car parks? Paths/sidewalks? Up to you! Value – If it was just the baseplates then it would be poor value for money, but the accessories make sure that you can make a ‘real’ feeling road out of the box and they add so much that you feel you get your money’s worth. Difficulty – They are easy to assemble and are very stable, but it takes an enjoyable amount of effort and planning to get the best out of them in terms of a working layout. The new flexibility is fantastic but it makes you think! Overall, a wonderful revolution in road building. Highly recommended.
I am an old LEGO fan so I was sceptical about new plates, I bought a set for my daughter and we have been having a great time since while playing with it together. We also have a modern family house and I am surprised how creative you can get with the new system. Pros: - it is in the system (it has proper height and can be attached from the bottom to other bricks) - it gives many new possibilities for creative roads and roadsides, you can even change lines - it looks nice - it is easy to assemble - it is more compact Cons: - it is expensive (however this set can by bought quite easily for 11-15 EUR) - it is not compatible with old plates - it is a bit harder to move around - there are not enough connectors in sets and too many ramps (i hope LEGO will fix that in the future as it is very limiting)
