Christmas train

Got the train for my gf who wanted a train to go around the base of the Christmas tree , was not to happy about there not being a motor for the train , but used an old 9v train motor and the electric charged track so she could have it on for as long as she wanted and not have to fight to change batteries every other day , worst thing lego ever did was get rid of the 9v train system

Christmas Town Addition

We bought this along with the Holiday Train Station. They're very fun together but I'm not sure I'd like them as much by themselves. My kids play with the Christmas town sets every night and Daddy and Mommy love rebuilding them every evening after the kids are done! haha My husband's only wish is that the train ran so it could go around the tree LOL

Good easy kit for a train around the tree

Got this as a Christmas gift to me and my girlfriend to build, didnt take us long at all to build it. I did also buy the winter train station to go with it, aswell as extra track. After finished the train didnt roll well, I had to have it on full and the tree didn't spin, loosened the rims on that axle and it spun easily and train could go any speed now.

Excellent

Great Christmas set, especially with all the electrics set up. Obviously you don’t get much play opportunity with a simple circular track, but it doesn’t make for a great display around the Christmas Tree during the loves festive period. I wanted a Lego set that would look great during Christmas time and I think this set is perfect for that. Friends and family always comment how great it looks. Goes very well with the more recently released train station which comes with more track offering a bit more playability. Love it

More Poor Quality Control

Opening a bag one would think this was a cheap knock off instead of the quality we are supposed to get from Lego. This is the second set in the Winter Village theme that has exhibited poor manufacturing. Note the 2 shades of black, one being extremely glossy. Lego will tell me that each brick is supposed to arrive perfect, and to submit a claim for items that arrive in this condition. However, it is time consuming as well as wait intensive. Totally unacceptable.

Great details - neat train set

Great set with some lovely little details. Built it with a six year old. Some giddy bits for her but we did it all in one evening together. Shame it doesn’t come with the battery control as standard. Description claimed the box includes dual instructions for family building - we only got one set or the instructions so I had to view a PDF on this website to build along too.

Just In-time for the festive holidays.

As a big collector of Lego when I saw this I knew I just had to have it, Im just a big kid at heart when it comes to the festive season. It was quite an easy build, didnt take long and looks really great once finished. I Love the rotating xmas tree as the train moves, this is a nice touch! After I had built it I then thought this would be great if it was motorised and as the instruction booklet had stated you can add power at a later date, that was my next purchase from Lego! I purchased item 88000 battery box, 88002 Train motor, 8879 Remote Control, 884 IR Receiver. Adding the power functions was really easy by following the additional instructions in the booklet, I even added some coal on the top of the battery pack which I think works well (check out my Pictures) I also added an additional Lego led lighting cable that I had, so now the train has lights, super cool. Roll on December so I can try it out under the tree! Enjoy.

Must Have Holiday (Christmas Set)

This Lego Train set incredible. I am really glad Lego realized the demand for a set like this based on the old one on ebay is $$$ saved me money there since I missed out on it. On to the review... I really like the Lego Trains and I am so grateful for Lego to create a train that does not compromise the train to put in the power functions. It even comes with steps of how to do it if your not good at that stuff. The spinning Christmas tree is really cool added bonus to this set. The part I did not like... The train cars are unusually small for a train. I would have liked to see a larger passenger car to make up for that so the overall value for money is lower than normal. What I am saying is if this set had nothing to do with the holidays I probably would not have been interested. Suggestion if the piece count was the concern, which it shouldn't have been 734 for $99.99...could have done without the generic looking present and the whole bench and light set up. I would rather have an awesome looking train. I still liked the set but it could have been cooler.

Great set

This is a fantastic set. It is easy to build and only takes a couple of hours to put together. It will look great under the tree, but you will probably have to buy more tracks. I bought the additional Power Function parts to motorize the train, because, well, TRAIN. (BTW the automation is not required, and pushing the train is just as fun as using the remote.) MODS: Like others who reviewed this set, I found the engine car too light to carry the motor, and experienced slipping of the wheels, especially when I added another car. I took another reviewer's advice and moved the motor to the tender/coal car and moved it to the middle of the train. It then worked perfectly. I also thought the smoke was a little small for the train, so I made that bigger. Like others, I found that the lamps on the last car made putting a full sized minifig on the outside of the car impossible. I compromised by taking the lamp off of the roof and putting it on a gold pole I had in my stock and had the ticket-taker hold this pole/lamp. MORE MODS: After all this, I watched the Polar Express and decided to turn my new train into the Polar Express. I added a couple of kids and put the hobo on top of the additional car, which I made into the toy transport car for the movie. This ended up being a great place to put the toys that you make in the set. I added an area at the front of the train to stand and made the lamp on the engine bigger. This is a super-cool set and I had a blast making all the mods for it. I think it will be a great addition to the North Pole Workshop and Winter Toy Shop.

Absolutely Delightful!

We love this Christmas train!! We added some straight track to make it an oval under the tree. My grandson helped me put it together and he really enjoyed the little toys, especially the fire engine with the moving ladder. We already had the power functions since we motorized our Lone Ranger Train so we just used those. The bright colors are delightful and it went together very easily.

Another Good Christmas Set

The train was fairly simple to build and definitely has playability and looks great displayed also. I have not connected the train to motor functions but I'm sure it would make a great toy train for older children. The train runs freely along the tracks and the Christmas tree rotates while the train is moving. Smart and fun!

I love it so much

I just recently started to get into Lego again - and when I ordered the winter village I saw the Winter train and had to get it too. I've built it in a bit over 2 hours - and have been sitting driving my train in circles for another half hour, as the tree spins so nicely when the train is moving... ;) I love the details and how many little extras come with it - I would definitely purchase it again and am very, very happy with it!

Great Addition to Winter Village

Every year my kids can't wait to put up the Lego Winter Village, and this year they are super excited. This train is great for kids of all ages, and adults too. The power functions are a must. Some have commented that they remove colour, which is true, but it is hardly noticeable. It's going to be a lot of fun figuring out how to incorporate this set into the whole village this year.
