My dad got this for me as a gift, which was something I had always wanted for a while now. Although it took a while to build him, it was worth it. He's so massive and full of detail. The only problem is that he's a bit fragile and pieces can easily fall off, but overall that is overshadowed by the fact that HE CAN TRANSFORM. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you know how to do it, it becomes easy as pie.
Autobots, roll out!
Hij staat al een tijdje naast mijn TV. Als o.g.Transformers fan is het een must buy. Het model zit onwijs goed in elkaar en was super fun om te bouwen. Ik vond hem wel aan de dure kant. Zo hadden ze de battle axe weg mogen laten (is best lelijk) om wat kosten te besparen. Daarnaast is eindelijk is zijn maatje Bumblebee erbij gekomen.

More Than Meets The Eye
its astounding that they achieved that with all the lego design restrictions. The Design is just incredible For a lego set to look this good while in two completely different states. One cool thing i spotted is the blaster when resting on truck bed has a hole in it which is strangely placed where you could add a trailer to it. I'm hoping this means we'll see a future trailer set to go with this set. Please Please Please
Excellent engineering!
Personally, I think this it one of the best Lego ideas ever! It's a robot that turns into a truck and it's made of Lego bricks! :) The design is excellent and it matches the original toy design very accurately, down to how the parts move when transforming. Though like with many Lego sets, there are some piece that fall off if you play with it. In this case, it's the pieces above the foot. I also like the accessories: sure, the "energon cube" is just some purple bricks, but it's a nice addition. I'm a little surprised by the rocket backpack because even the instruction manual says it was only used once in the TV series. I hope Lego makes more Transformers sets!
Iconic
My son is 17 and this is verdict. Its an OK build and one to have if you like transformers which I do so can appreciate the gen 1 styling. Yes its impressive and looks great as a robot or truck, however its fragile on the waist as it snaps easily which is annoying. The transformation can be tricky but not to bad. The body is firm where needed but there could be more articulation in arms a legs. Its not really for playing ( mine will be display only). I know you can add lights to make it stand out but light bricks could have been an option. Tips for future development leys have Megaton and few other iconic characters.
Doesn't stay together!
I couldn't wait to buy this set as I am a huge Transformers (and LEGO) fan, however, I am pretty disappointed with this particular set. It was definitely a joy to assemble but transforming it is nearly impossible without it falling apart. For those who reviewed it stating it was a "solid piece", I strongly disagree. Sure, sitting on a shelf not being touched is appealing (the legs are the only solid piece to this set). I have spent 30 minutes trying to convert it but all it does is fall apart. It's quite disappointing to be honest. My son simply picked it up and was turning it in his hands to view all sides and a few pieces fell off. This definitely is not worth the money in my opinion. I feel that since myself or my kids can't even play with it or convert it without it crumbling to pieces makes this set overpriced and as I mentioned, a disappointment. My kids and I play with and assemble LEGO sets daily. We have over 200 sets assembled and displayed and love adding sets to our collection, however, this is not the first time an expensive LEGO set has disappointed me. Maybe the LEGO company can start creating videos of certain sets to show how to work the different features so LEGO fans/buyers aren't so frustrated and overwhelmed trying to figure it out on their own. I wish I could submit photos of it together but whenever I touch it, it falls apart as shown in the photos.
Awesome Set!!
Ignore any negative comments on this set! It’s epic! It transforms really well and looks amazing in both forms! I loved this set so much I designed and built him a trailer! Which was mega fun on top of it! Highly recommend!!!
Optimus amazing
As a transformer fan since 1984 this is a dream come true. A few modifications and I think it perfect. The leg sticker plates I rotated to be more true to the cartoon. I took the 1x3 blue plate off the end of the fingers for more articulation and moved his mouth piece up ever so slightly to cover the strange thin slip of grey underneath his eyes which in my opinion ruined his look. I had to use a bit of blue-tack here unfortunately to hold in place until I can work out how to remodel the head so it can click in place.
Ultimate Optimus!
This was a set I had been waiting for almost as much as the proper sized Delorean! Certainly was not disappointed in either. I have an old Optimus toy from when I was younger, so being able to build Prime out of Lego and be able to transform like it should, without removing items is a testament to the designers! A really clever build and some great build techniques to keep the strength required to allow him to stand and transform without the risk of parts falling off. Loving the printed detailing on parts especially the eyes. A build I have already recommended to friends. Hopefully this may pave the way for a few other Transformers too!
Please Do More Transformers
Lego Transformers has been a want in the Transformers Community for a long time and this product very much delivers that want; however, there needs to at least be a Megatron to go with him. The build was a little long but that's to be expected for an Expert build. The two biggest flaws are that he has no knees and his feet don't stay together in one piece. Having knees on such a big build would be difficult and have it be stable so that's understandable and the problem with the feet can be fixed the parts given in the set which I fixed easily. This is probably my favorite Lego set ever and I really would like a Megatron to go with him.
Be an Optimist Prime, don't be a Negatron!
I know that this comment is very common for this item but for me as a huge Transformers G1 and LEGO fan, this LEGO set was something I was dreaming during my childhood! The Figure and Truck looks awesome and I hope so that you will create at least Soundwave, Bumblebee... Unfortunatelly I have to mention that stability of this set is very debatable... If you want to move figure leg part with the red light brick is always disassembles, if you want to place Ion Blaster in Optimus hand, hand has an issue to keep the position and hand is falling down... I do not have an issue to change it into a truck like lot of fans and it is acceptable (not more) for me. LEGO please add an option to choose SERBIA in the country list for Write a Review section.
Second Childhood Dream
This is a super-cool collaboration, concept & execution. The science behind making this thing work as a functional transformer is still mind boggling but the end result is a SOLID model. The legs in particular are really solid and well worth the two days it took this novice to build it. Glad to have this as part of my collection. My only gripe is I can’t seem to get the jet pack on and the piece tends to separate at the waist when I try to transform him so I’ve actually yet to get him in vehicle mode as it just gets too frustrating & I’d rather leave well enough alone. I’m not sure if I did something wrong during build or just natural for a Lego. Despite that I totally love it and plan on getting an acrylic case to display it.
Epic!
Thank you for giving me my childhood back. The build was fun and the attention to detail is unbelievable, it even transforms like the G1 prime. The instruction book is brilliant with the graphics and info. Transformers was my life when I was 8 years old and now I'm right back in the 80s. Well done lego, now how about sound wave?

My son and I really enjoyed this build, I really wish it would have had the trailer. It brought back all the great memories of the original cartoon. I also added pictures of my sons original Optimus Prime toy, and I also show the size compared to Lego Voltron.

I have been waiting for a Transformers set ever since they released Voltron. They definitely made my day with this set. This set was so much fun to build. It is incredibly sturdy. There is some amount of repetition, considering that he is symmetrical. He transforms almost exactly like the G1 action figure. I’m a little disappointed that there are gaps in the pieces when you transform him into truck mode. But, overall, I extremely loved building this set. I’m hoping they can release another Transformers set.
One shall build....One shall play.
Senior Lego Joseph Kyde has, The Touch. Lego, use your price raising to give this man more $ for more of these creations. Quite simply, this lego genius has not only captured the design and feel of the original G1 toy, but improved upon it by allowing the hands to stay attached during transformation. A historic piece as the first official Lego Transformer. Some might argue that Bastion from Overwatch was technically the first, but his transformation requires his head to be removed. Still, thanks to this Optimus Icons set, I can see Mr Kydes genius using Bastions Tri-Pod Gun Turret mode as a possible base for Galavatron. I enjoyed building this, I enjoyed transforming this. There is something immeasurably satisfying about building your own working Transformer. This is Lego! This is pure fun. It took me back 40 years to my poor childhood where I had to save for a year to get the original G1 Optimus. Easily toy of the year 2022 if not the decade. My favorite lego piece, and although not as pricey as some of my other pieces, it is simply the best value. Buy this Icon as soon as you can, this Lego Kit is no coming attraction, It's the whole freaking show. 5 Golden stars all round. (Sideswipe next for the Jetpack please. :) I have lots of money now. Lego, this franchise is your next star wars. ) More Lego Transformers = more $$$ (from me anyway)
A Dream Come True!
For years children wanted a LEGO Transformer and lo and behold, we got the heroic leader of the Autobots and wow! Just wow! I can't express how fun this set is! Sure, it is expensive, but considering it is a merge with LEGO and Optimus Prime, it is decently priced. But wow! This thing is so much fun! The build experience is so much fun! The thing feels VERY heavy. You can FEEL the price of this thing. The experience was so much fun, with fun facts across the booklet, and the actual product is gorgeous! We have an outstanding array of accessories like the iconic Proton Blaster, a classic Energon Cube, Sideswipe's Jetpack (which opens a world of playability), and the amazing Energon Axe! Sure, the build is a bit out-of-line on the axe, but flipping the blade around does the trick. And let's not forget the legendary Matrix of Leadership And the robot OH MY GOSH! It is GORGEOUS! It captures the essence of Optimus Prime, it doesn't fall apart and has great articulation! Even the hands and fingers can move! The legs are a letdown, but it's passable. But the best thing is the transformation! I haven't had this much fun with such a simple transformation yet so faithful to the robot and vehicle designs! The truck is just as gorgeous as the robot, and you can really feel the weight to it, but it can roll out just fine! But the transformation is so simple you can do it in a matter of seconds and you're not gonna put this thing down as it is so much fun to do! One downside it the waist piece is constantly disconnecting, but it is LEGO so that is to be expected. As a hardcore Transformers fan and Stop-Motion animator, this is a dream come true and a MUST for anyone who has dreamed of a LEGO Transformer! This thing is what you have been looking for! But grab it quickly, this thing is FLYING off the shelves. Looking forward to any other collabs of LEGO and Transformers to bring more Iconic characters in bricks. Worth the money? Maybe a little overpriced, but what you get is a robot, a truck, a puzzle, a warrior, a leader, and a LEGO set all in one. So to me, it is so worth it. I hope you can find yours soon! 'Till all are one!
