Lego
Very satisfied!
PERFECT
For collectors who also keep the boxes, my fear was that it would arrive damaged. However, it was really well packaged, the box was perfect, and the set is magnificent, especially since it is very difficult to find, and the price is also reasonable.
great package
Very happy with this set, everything is included, very nice.
Every piece was included with instructions and the delivery was as promised.
This was a gift for my grandchildren. They are 8 and 12 years old, but they routinely assemble the 16+ and 18+ LEGO kits. These kits are expensive but very detailed. The children love them. This one has a boxing ring on the second floor with a punching bag that really moves.
Lego
Very nice to build.
My favorite modular.
Oh, by far, my favorite modular. I love every bit of this set. Every floor has tons of fun details and playability. I'm a restaurant manager so I really took to the diner, the checkered floor, and the JUKEBOX, oh I love the jukebox so much. The exhaust system is a gorgeous, accurate touch that I didn't expect. The seating is great, the gumball machine is so cute and could easily be turned into Tom Servo from MST3K if one were inclined to do so. The gym has the beautiful red boxing ring that was a lot of fun to build, and the boxing bag is perfect, though I wish there was a spot to stand minifigures on the red pieces. The third floor is the least interesting and is STILL awesome, if that tells you any idea how much I love this set. The recording booth with the sound material is so clever! The exterior of the set has a lot to show for, too, it's not just a front showing one like most of them are. The side with the stairs is perfect to have on the end of a display. The diner sign itself was really cool to do. And the Pink Cadillac! TRY not singing that song when you build it! (There may be an age requirement on that reference) So many awesome building techniques in this one, added to the gorgeous facade and interiors, makes this the winner for me. Is it my favorite of ALL sets? I dunno, the Tree House and Barracuda Bay and this are all such stunning sets, I can't really pick one, so I'll just leave them all as an equal top three. I added some lights myself, not one of those expensive custom sets, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Highly, highly recommended. Hopefully you can find it for a decent price now that it's retired!
I'm really craving this Diner!
One of several sets we own - amazing construction - fun to put together - proud to display!
With LEGO, you can make anything.
If you buy LEGO, you know that you are getting a good toy. It is a toy that the grandchildren can also play with. So, lifelong enjoyment.
Beautiful Dining Set
This was my 3rd Lego build and I tried to build it slowly in order to enjoy it longer 8-).
I was lucky to get this set from Walmart with the original price while it was out of stock everywhere else or only available for a higher price. However, I would not recommend buying from Walmart online as the box was damaged and torn off in one corner. Walmart also sticks the mailing label on the box, which is horrible when you pay for the price of $250. I decided to keep the set and started building right away with the hope that nothing was missing. And luckily there were no missing pieces.
The final build is beautiful. I like the design details and the building colors overall: blue, white, pink, and light brown.
What I liked building the most were: the dining kitchen with BBQ stove, the boxing gym room; the front building of every floor; the rolling pink car.
One minor thing that I noticed is the two cups on the bar and the top pancake in the table corner are not stuck to the brick. I placed double tape there to stop the pieces from moving.
Overall, I am very happy to have this set added to my building collection.
My FIRST ... and luv it!
I was lucky enough to be able to order this last month and loved building it. Fun techniques especially the spiral back stairs and I like the punching bag as well. I added the Good Morning Sparkle Babies set and built a stroller to add more character to my set.
Clever and refreshing
A great addition to the range of buildings, and to do it in a period style is fantastic. I love the juke box, the gumball machine and the inventive construction techniques to get that iconic design. And it was so good to see more of the surface area of the base plate taken up with building, instead of empty space. Very good!
Endless building fun
Top LEGO Creator Expert set
Nice LEGO building.
Very interesting LEGO set, lots of fun.
Sweet
Fun and great. Given as a gift to a friend and he loved it.
Expanded
I loved the diner so much that I felt it needed an extension. Business was booming so well they decided to expand to keep up with the increase in customers.
Classic 1950s America
The Downtown Diner is one of the most fascinating building experiences I've had. When I first saw this set two years ago, I was heavily turned off by it's style & colour, especially the shades of pink. But over time as I've viewed it more often (and since purchasing and completing the Diner) I have become incredibly fond of the structure. There's plenty of side-building techniques -almost everywhere on the front exterior. It has both an intriguing style and design: the spiral staircase 'round the back; the windows that just slot in; the pink lettering; and of course the white/pink/teal barrier that runs from the far right of the building around to the back stairway. As always with the modulars, I'm impressed with the little details included in the set: The juke box, the gum machine, the water-cooler etc. The car, clearly mirroring a Cadillac of some description looks great and better still it's able to hold up to three minifigures. Most unusual for a six-stud-wide car. The minifigures are very suitable to the whole theme - very 'Grease' like. Overall, the layout of the building with its interior & exterior colour, design and shape makes this a fine & authentic Lego set.
Amazing Build!
This is a fantastic build, with great level of detail. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this.
Another Must have Modular for Adults
Recently Lego announced it has agreed to allow Swedish furniture company IKEA to produce Lego-themed furniture. Well, I recently bought an IKEA yellow modular unit in order to place and display my beloved Lego modular Creator sets, which are all my pride and joy. I spent an extra NZ$40 over the white coloured option in order to have a Lego-themed yellow unit which was well worth the extra cost. Most of my modulars fit in each box of the unit (excepting the Cinema and the Town hall which are shelved elsewhere), and those that do not usually just need a spire that is too fall to fit in the box to go therein, which brings me around to the Diner: as you can see by the images I removed the spire on top of the Diner to get it to go in that box, which I am happy with.
The Diner is one of those modulars, along with the Detective Agency, which do not really do themselves any justice until one has actually built the models and has them to peruse in the brick, in front of oneself. the 2d images on the boxes do not really show how awesome they both look once they are actually built and are on display, unlike Antoine's french restaurant which looks so moreish on its box imagery and the bank which brings itself out from the box images too of itself.
The diner is a FUN build. Especially the ground level awnings (under where the DInER sign on the building is). Building that white surrounding awning reminded me somewhat of the front and back bumpers you need to make on the red VW Campervan. Another feature I really liked on the Diner is the clip-on beige brick works that adorn the first and second floors of the building. To me it is luxury to have more than just one brick for a Lego model's walls (like, for example, the Ghostbusters Firehouse having luxury inner walls).
This model is well worth buying, for yourself and/or your children, and for any of you who want a future investment (which isn't really my buzz). I think building this one's children would be fun and help with bonding, especially for fathers and sons.
As a finisher to this review I put my favourite Minifigure on the footpath in front of the Diner, which you may be able to make out in my appended images: my Nestlé Nesquick brown rabbit which was only available in Australasia in the early 90's (I Believe).
Happy building everybody.
The Best so far!
I have build 5 modulars and this one is the best! I'm glad Lego have rid of classic faces and got more expressions to minifigures because they are amazing and bring more entertainment to the building and theme of it! Building technics for this modular is just amazing, I haven't seen nothing like this before and was wow'ing all the time :) It's almost corner modular, because it has beautiful left side of it with the stairs and backdoors details. Highly recommend it and don't be fooled by negative feedbacks! Enjoy :)
Downtown diner
A very nice Lego set I love the 1950s American diner style the car is remarkable the designer has done a great job at making this model where it is more curvy and dynamic which makes it look so much better a very rewarding build and very fun to build and when put on display wow it is a truly remarkable piece of Lego. Plus £130 for a set this many pieces great usually Lego is overpriced silent Mary £180 for about 2100 pieces diner £130 for 2480 pieces that is a good price diner is a model to get get it before it is RETIRED and costs double the price today.
