Very good and satisfied
I like it very much, the minifigures are awesome, with many capes and fabrics that are exclusive to his set. I had a lot of fun building, and if you add a few more minifigures, it makes the castle feel fun and lively. 100% recommend, buy it before it retires! :D
Beautiful set
Absolutely beautiful set. I was wary about buying an expensive set like this one but after completing the set and seeing the completeness and thought out into its design it’s absolutely worth its cost.

It was such a great build!! I really enjoyed the details when building it. It is also a great set to play with and display. Great mini figure selection! 10 out of 10!!!!
Absolutely Amazing
I haven't had Legos since I was a kid so this was my first advanced set. I enjoyed everything about it. It took a long time to put this together but I consider that a good thing as I enjoyed the build. The level of detail is incredible and the amount of very clever aspects that are incorporated was really unexpected...I would share some of them but I would hate to spoil any surprises. It's clearly extremely well thought out. My kids have played with it for hours already since I've finished. I'm going to buy some more themed sets like this but this one was so spectacular that I almost wonder how anything could top it. I can't recommend it enough.
Greatest castle ever
As soon as I saw the leaks online, I knew this set was a must buy. Castle was always my favourite Lego theme as a child. I still own 6080, King’s Castle (Castle Lion in the UK) after receiving it for my 7th birthday.
My fascination with castles and history is bit weird maybe as I nearly drowned in the moat of Bodiam Castle. Coincidentally, I’ve always thought King’s Castle was inspired by Bodiam Castle, which in turn, inspires this magnificent model.
There’s so many good things to say. The amount of mini figures. I love having the 3 factions from my childhood. It’s just so solid. Many building techniques that made me think ‘that’s so clever’. The drawer bridge and portcullis operating mechanisms are genius. The arrow slit windows are also a favourite. A few other things but I want to avoid spoilers.
There are a few minor niggles, the Queen (Elizabeth) should have a royal bedroom, no throne room, the new long sword being too long for the horse’s saddles.
I’m just being super picky with these nitpicks as this is a never sell/dismantle set for me. It has however made me want a bigger, more intricate set. For now I’ll just satisfy this need by designing extra areas on Studio.
I am currently waiting for the Medieval Town Square to be released in Qatar and supplement my display as that is also another day one buy.

The best one. Period.
When I was a kid, I wanted Lego castle stuff so badly it almost hurt. I coveted the line. It sent my imagination spiraling. And I never had any.
I got back into Lego as an adult mere days after this set was released. I dipped a toe, then a foot, into the modern Lego waters, and then swan-dove headfirst right into the deep end. And Lion Knight's Castle was my first "major" set.
In some ways, this is almost a shame. I said in my review of Assembly Square that making that set my first modular had the unfortunate consequence of setting an impossibly-high bar for all the modulars that came after. The same is true for Lion Knight's: I'm honestly not sure any set can or will ever live up to this one for me.
Is that opinion influenced by the ghosts of that childhood longing? Maybe - but I don't think anybody who has built this set would deny that it is anything short of magnificent.
As a build experience, it's just flawless. And I really mean that. I was never even close to bored, not even doing the slightly-repetitious gray exterior walls. The way this build unfurls is pure magic. You're always putting in fun little details, creating and then hiding Easter eggs and play features, going "oooo that's COOL" over some build technique (the balcony-to-catwalk trick is particularly cool). It's dynamic, engaging, and a true joy from start to finish.
As a display model, I mean, look at the thing. It's majestic. It's got that special, magical Lego whimsy through and through, and yet is also built to a scale and scope that makes it impressive to behold.
My only complaint is that Lego didn't figure out a way to violate the laws of physics and keep the front AND back of the set displayed simultaneously, because I want to look at all of it at once. I'm almost - ALMOST - crazy enough to buy a second one so that I can have both sides on display. But then I'd need a third so I could have one closed up, too.
And honestly? If money was no object? The thought of building this whole set two more times? I'd do it in a heartbeat.
This is the best one. What a masterpiece.
We love castles
All four grandchildren love to play with the knights and soldiers in and around the castles. They find hidden areas exciting.
Long live the Lego Queen
I had saved money for my birthday for this and it was definitely worth it.
-Lots of interior space with enough details
-Very cool hidden features (drawbridge that doubles as trapdoor, etc)
-The amount and quality of figures are great. Very nice to finally have a Queen with a helmet and also hair that has a detachable tiara/crown.
-Fantastic little side builds (like the market stall and weapon racks) that can easily be removed/moved around.
Overall I am very happy with the price and the final outcome of the build. Had about 26 bags and took me three days (pacing myself, of course, at about 4+ hours per day). Straight-forward building with some very cool techniques to get the building angles.
I would recommend this for anyone on the fence about it.

My favourite feature is the amazing draw bridge its mechanism is phenomenal from the 22 minifigs and the portcullis I recommend this set for you!!!!!!

Amazing throwback
I had an amazing time going through this build. Never had an issue with the instructions and loved the way the modular builds came together. My favourite aspect were all the little details, the door mechanisms and of course, all the minifigures. Really brought back memories of my lego experience in the 90’s. Obviously pricy but definitely worth it.
Exceptional experience
The build experience is one of the best I’ve seen in the classic theme sets and very clever technics have been used throughout. I wouldn’t expect anything less from both Milan Madge and Mike Psiaki.
The display is much better than the shows in the pictures. Given the uniform grey, it sits well in many settings including the living room on a wooden or metallic surface.
And playability is much more than you would get in any other adult lego sets.
I paired it with the dragon from an old set and it brings a smile to my face every time I look at it.

Childhood revisited
This set is amazing! I love the details and the way the set folds up. This has so many small details that remind me of playing my knight castle sets when I was small. The build is fun and you definitely feel like you are exploring the castle as you go. The mini figures are amazing, I liked the amount of animals as well. This set has it all going on. I feel like LEGO has become so expensive on all sets so that’s my only low remark. Not everyone can play at the prices you ask for, it’s becoming disheartening.
Quality Control Issues Spoils Build
I looked forward to this set since the first round of fan voting! I purchased it day 1 and couldn’t wait to build it. I feel bad for all the amazing work and effort the set designers put into this set only for it to be spoiled by a poor quality product which is totally out of the ordinary for lego. And before you thumbs down this review please know that I have never been this critical of a lego set and I build over 100 sets per year easily for the past 10 years or longer.
My biggest issue is not the set itself but the lego elements. There has either been a change to the formula, the molds and/or the machinery that causes the injection points to be more pronounced and off center (see pic). Also, some of the translucent elements are not translucent anymore but cloudy. I compared the exact same elements to ones found in the latest Speed Champions winter wave and they do not have either of these issues.
Why it matters so much to me is besides my OCD it really decreased the enjoyment of the build. Almost every 1x1 element needed to be positioned as to not show the bumps. It increased the build time and at times I just wanted to give up but was glad that I was done. This does not fit in with Legos new Icons pledge to adults regarding quality
Regarding price Prior to 8/1 you could get Ninjago City Gardens for $100 less and it has over 1K pieces more and has 1 more Minifigure. If you are looking for a set for your child I would highly recommend getting the Creator 3:1 Castle or possibly 2 and do the MOC build for half the price.
The Medieval Market area is great, especially the thatch roof, but not sure why they made the building white and not tan I think it would have looked much better and been more realistic. Another good thing is there is no dire need to add on to this set but I am sure many will. Oh, and no stickers.
Shout out to the designers for adding the “Patsy” Minifigure from Monty Python.
The castle you've always wanted.
Am I 26? Yes. Is this the castle the fulfillment of a childhood dream? Also yes. Scratch that, it's better, this set blows all the other castles out of the water and sets a new standard. The skill and dedication of the builders really shows, and the attention to detail is amazing (some of my favorites being the well and the er... brown frog). I think the best thing about this set is that these guys know that the primary buyers are adults (just because of the price, skill level wise, it takes patience, but I could have probably slogged through at 12) but it's still designed to be played with. Minifigure wise, they're all pretty good, however I didn't like Sleeping Beauty as a guard and given the rich detail of all the rest, the wizard's just plain blue body is a bit boring and disappointing (I fixed both issues). It also would have been sweet to include plate armor for the Falcon knight, and of course a ghost would have been awesome! I only felt the need to improve on one thing and that was the window design for the latrine and the armory over looking the courtyard. I put one of those small technic pieces with the stud on top into the upside down piece so the piece on top can actually latch, it makes it more secure, and at this point you should have 4 in the parts pile. I did also slap together a little dock and put it at the back gate with a rowboat in case they need to escape. Basically if you can afford it, and you've always wanted a castle, buy this. I really hope we see a revival of the Castle line (from a team led by these designers) and that Lego gave these guys a fat bonus or a raise.
Well worth it for a fan of the castle themes
I know much has been made of the cost of this set, but from the outside looking in, the castle themes have always been expensive relative to the number of pieces, etc. I would have thought, with inflation since the last sets were released 15 to 20 years ago, this is more than reasonable!
It is clearly a set for adults at this price point, and the quality of the build experience matches that expectation, in my opinion. Almost everything, from the secret lairs and trap doors to the construction techniques used, shows a careful attention to design. The only faux pas I have found, that might have been an actual mistake, is that the flags can’t all point in the same direction! Otherwise, bravo; this is a great celebration of castle themed Lego through the years.
Almost perfect
This castle is super cool. I love it. So many cool little features that the pictures that Lego put up don't do it justice. Some really fun steps in the build proccess too. I loved how the back steps came together. There are lots of details and unfortunately, some are hard to see once the build is complete, like the bats in the cave under the castle and the secret room. I really like the nod to the original yellow castle they threw in. Would love to see a re-make of that yellow castle with grey bricks, or just a re-release. It was a very unique set (I still have mine) with what is now considered an "illegal" build step.
A few things I didn't care for:
- The wizard isn't detailed at all
- Only 1 horse. Really Lego?
- The blue color of the water, doesn't match my other blue plates.
- I personally can't stand the pieces that are "pre-built", like item # 4211564 and 6272132. Just give me the pieces to build those.
- The draw bridge and front ramp are just kinda, meh, in my opinion.
That's really all I didn't care too much for, and those are not deal breakers at all. Overall just a really fun build and what a cool castle. Would love to see an expansion set for this (maybe a stable, some shops, etc), and more castle series sets in general, as I am a SUCKER for Lego castle sets and Star Wars sets.
About time lego
My first lego set was back in the late 80’s. It was black monarchs castle I had got for Xmas that year and it started my lego hobby. This castle was by far the best one ever designed and who ever did design it needs a raise and to be able to make more. I will be buying another one of these. The curves and how it opens up with the colors was remarkable. Sad to say that despite all the secret trap doors and high walls the lion knights even teamed up with the falcons were no match for the troll hordes. (See pic)
Crastle
Firstly the value of the castle is fine, sure it could’ve been more agreeable for it go for $350 but the footprint, piece count, and mini figure count make this a set worth the $400 price tag if you’re considering purchasing. Very detailed, good looking set with an exceptional amount of mini figures. Love how the balcony unfolds into a bridge and how cohesive it all is. My only quarrel with the set is probably the stair case leading up to the castle, because it’s kind of dorky looking and you can’t place any figures on it. I understand they’re going for the og castle landscape look so I get it, but could’ve been done differently. Very fun set that has playability functions and looks amazing on display.
Amazing castle filled with details, a bit pricey.
So I've been waiting for this castle ever since there was a rumor that the 90th anniversary set would be the castle from the delorean trailer. When I saw it reveal at Lego con, I built a shelf JUST for it. The wait for shipping seemed longer, lol.
I built it in one shot, I couldn't resist, however, I completely underestimated the size. Also, it's heavier than I thought. Lots of people compared it to the height of the Medieval Blacksmith and while the height is close, and way more mass.
Compared to Barracuda Bay, the overall height is shorter, but this is SO much denser. The castle is super clean and neat and very grey. I love the pirate and castle themes and was REALLY happy with Barracuda Bay... I think it’s still my favourite set. It was interesting to learn that this castle and Barracuda Bay were both designed by the same Lego designer.
The castle has a crazy 21 minifigures, 1 skeleton, 2 horses, a cow, a lamb and a bird. I really like the fabric flags and NO STICKERS! The counter-weight drawbridge works amazingly well, I like the quick-close mechanism for the front gate and the rear door gear rack works flawlessly. The first link for the chain for the front gate has to be lined up straight and centered, or there’s a chance the front gate can get stuck while closing. The forestmen secret rooms and caves are so detailed.
There's main negative with this set... the price; I believe it's about $50 - $80 too expensive but, with the price hikes, it's understandable; although overpriced IMO, I ordered it August 2nd at 11:49 PM EST, lol. Been looking at the Bricklink Castle in the Forest on eBay, found out it goes for $450, no way! lol. I started reviewing the 3 in 1 castle, however, I think it's too "childish", although I bought the 3 in 1 pirate ship, lol. I think this is the best official castle set ever released. This is the most expensive set I ever bought.
In the end, although a bit on the pricey side, I believe if you're a fan of the castle themes, and you can afford the extra $50 - $80, I'd highly recommend getting the set. The build experience is really worth it and it's an AMAZING display piece! It's really high quality build. If you’re having buyers remorse, you won’t once it's fully built and on display, believe me, it's amazing. If it's genuinely outside the price range and you’re really into castle themes, I'd recommend the fortress MOC with the 3 creator castles or another one of the MOCs, however, from the reviews I’ve seen online, the quality of this set is way better.
