This was a super build, the details are excellent. I liked the colour coding early in the build to help with getting the right steps / right parts connected - I haven’t seen that before in a Lego build and it’s a neat idea. I liked the optionality of seeing R2s arms or removing them, what would have been extra cool is if there was a lightsaber hidden inside his head dome (return of the Jedi / jabbas barge) This is my first Star Wars builds and I really loved the design / build and the final display….. nice job Lego thanks!
What a fun and beautiful model! It was straightforward to build and it feels sturdy. I like that you can add (and keep them there) or remove the various tools and sensors. It would be cool if they could be tucked away internally like with the pricier model, but at this price point the play model is honestly spot on! Like I found with Chopper, both of these paired with BD-1 on a shelf make for a great decoration, but the size difference between R2/Chopper and BD-1 is noticeable enough. Still, bar the ratio gap, this build is very engaging and is among my favourites so far.
This set is really great, I, as a LEGO and Star Wars fan, was very entertained building this set.
Great build, and don't forget the Darth Malak figure. Absolutely super.
It's fun to build and the different possibilities and parts. And 2 minifigures.
Very satisfied. The package was delivered very quickly and in perfect condition. It was super fun to build. I really enjoyed it.
Awesome Star Wars build. Everything went very smoothly. Really liked how the components went together and moved in a smooth way.
Another perfect build, looks great with C-3PO and Chewbacca !
This R2-D2 is truly fantastic. A beautiful building experience with an even more beautiful result. The building instructions were very clear, thanks to pictograms such as when you should hear a click and the colors within the model to indicate the front and back. The robot itself looks very much like the original, and it really brings the Star Wars universe to life. The extra Darth Malak figure also makes it worth the money. Highly recommended for everyone.
This was fun to put together as I have never really built any big Lego kits before. The instructions were very thorough and easy to follow. The Legos were broken up into bags numbered for each step making it easy to follow. I was surprised at the moving features that could be created. The cost is to be expected with LEGO and the Star Wars branding since this is a collectible item.
We were so excited to get this one in. The packaging is nice, of course cause it's Lego. Very sturdy and durable, does what the box described. I think this is a great value for the money. Not as expensive as some of the other star wars sets are.
My daughter is super excited to put together this R2-D2. It just arrived today and she is super excited to start putting it together. She says that like all engineers, these Legos are a relief for them. I love that it comes with two miniatures and one is a exclusive mini figure Darth Malak Definitely worth the price It is perfect for collecting I'll be back with an update when it's finished.
I have 3 teen boys and this set was great for them! It gave them an activity to keep them all busy and it was so nice to see them truly having a good time while working TOGETHER. They definitely bonded over this Lego set. It wasn't too easy or too difficult to build and they were able to complete it independently without any issues. We had no problems with missing pieces or things not coming together properly. It only took them a couple hours which I think was perfect. My boys share our basement and each have them own room with a "common area" in the middle and this is a great display piece they have now proudly showcased there.
R2-D2 was very well received; he was very happy with it. The recipient immediately started working on it and spent the entire afternoon with it. He was pleased that he could finish it in about four hours and achieve a result. There were twelve plastic bags, which is unfortunate, as in other sets we have found paper bags, which seems more environmentally friendly to us. What I also always find annoying about LEGO sets is that you cannot make a smaller box from the box itself. A kind of stackable mini-version that you can keep track of more easily with the booklet. This could be indicated with a dotted line to show how to fold it. Optionally, if a few pieces are taken apart to store and another is put together. In any case, the box is always quite large to make a big impression, but you don't keep that. The size of R2-D2 was quite fun. I expected it to be larger, but it is smaller. Ultimately, I think it is a good middle size that you can play with and also display. He played with his younger cousin and they had a lot of fun. There are a number of movable pieces and a leg that you can attach. Apparently, this is how R2-D2 has two legs when standing and an extra leg extends when he is moving forward. The only downside is that there are no interchangeable wheels, which makes the "driving" part less convenient. He was not very happy with the stickers, which apparently are a bit too large to stick on neatly. Given the age for which this is intended, I think this could be a bit more refined. Overall, this is a fun piece that now proudly stands on its shelf among other favorite pieces.
For me, building this set was a great experience. Not only because I did it together with someone who is both a Star Wars and LEGO fan, but also because I, as a beginner LEGO builder, learned a lot from building this set. R2-D2 also looks great on its own. After building, which was easy to do thanks to the clear instructions, we were able to play with the set for a while. Now, R2-D2 is proudly displayed on a pedestal in the room of our more experienced builder. I would definitely recommend this set to both beginner and more experienced builders. I would recommend everyone to enjoy the fun of discovering how to put R2-D2 together!
This R2-D2 build is an easy build and it comes at a decent size. I also own the UCS R2-D2 and enjoyed building that one more. This newer version of the R2 droid lacks a lot of details found in the UCS version and quite frankly, it had too many stickers. The upside was the exclusive Darth Malak minifigure but that’s it.
This was such a fun build to put together. Watching the little details come to life as R2 was being assembled truly made me geek out. Overall I would put this as a 9/10 for overall enjoyment. What would make this a 10/10 build is to actually integrate the extra parts into the assembly vs making them detachable and interchangeable. I know the larger model does that, but not having spare parts lying around would make this so much more convenient.
This is the best R2 that Lego has made in my opinion. It’s appropriately sized and very well designed. It goes great with Chewbacca from a size perspective. I’m very pleased with the set. It was a blast to build. As usual, a little expensive but I’m satisfied.
This is the R2 I’ve been waiting for! Our favorite astromech is nearly flawless with correct proportions throughout, detailed legs and great accessory additions making this my second favorite droid build (BD-1 is still the gold standard for me). The addition of Darth Malak is superb! Great printing and colors on the minifigure along with a stellar face print and top-tier mask make this a phenomenal anniversary figure that will surely be desired for years to come! 5/5
