YO HO YO HO LEGO LIFE FOR ME
My daughter built this for me and had fun while doing it. We watched pirate movies and she built while watching. The details of the sails and cables is cool. Even has a treasure chest and cannons that work. Goes great with the light house. Oh, and beware of the shark!

Truly a great set!
I have been a Lego Pirate fan since the summer of 1990 when I first bought myself the Black Sees Barracuda (Lego 6285) and the Caribbean Clipper (Lego 6274). In the years that followed my collection continued to grow (Thank you designer and creative mastermind Niels Milan Pedersen for making all these great sets bake then!!!).
In the later years I have re-gained my interest in the Pirates theme with the launch of great sets like The Brick Bounty (70413) that I bough for my son, and recently Barracuda Bay (21322) and Pirate Ship (31109).
I consider myself a Lego Pirates Expert, and the Pirate Ship (31109) is absolutely one of my favorites. This is such a great and unique set because everything is brick-built. The construction process and building techniques are really interesting. This gives the overall ship a really detailed and realistic look.
In the Lego Pirates World, the Pirates usually outnumber the imperial soldiers. So to even the odds between the Pirates and the Soldiers, the 31109 now is re-build with blue Lego brick-sails to help defend the Eldorado Fortress.

Amazing!
Bought this set for a recent spring break trip to St. Augustine. Thought the pirate theme would be a good activity for a rainy day. It did not disappoint. Easy to build and fun for the home family!

Endless building fun and creativity
The three different models offer endless building fun and encourage creativity. The details are impressive, and the quality is, as expected from LEGO, excellent.

Sturdy, fun to play, to display
Even at age 69, I just can’t leave this one on the shelf for display. It just has too much fun to take down for a while and play with. I love the the mini figs and all the special decorations of the ship. The rigging is clever, and you’ll even notice that I did it as special personal mark to the rigging myself in jib area. Whether you’re 69 going on 70 or 69 going on 9 , I have to recommend this to everyone. The other part of it is that is just so sturdy, pick up and to move around to sit down. I am totally impressed. And half of the rest of it I have to warn you that I am a storyteller, so believe the rest of us at your own risk. I removed the skeleton design and replace it with a design of a popular country because he ships were often used as chameleon attack ships which were chartered by Kings and Queens, one nation and give them to privateers which were legalized pirates to attack and steal the goods from other nations, and bring them back to their own nation. Course they were granted asylum, awards, titles and lands, all the good stuff from their home nation for doing their deeds. They were considered to be heroes from the lands of where they came from so that is why there is a different insignia on my front sail. Usually they would wait and see if a treasure laden ship were being attacked by other vessels from other nations, or just by other pirates, and then once the other Pirates, or nations, had taken on board all of their bounty , they would swoop in attack the weaker pirate ship and steal back all the goods and Rush back to their own country and have a big party, and receive all the rewards so these type of boats, fast and nimble lightly Gunned, but able to maneuver and outman, the ships of they were attacking Were highly successful during the age of pirate sail. Have fun in your build , unfurl your imagination!

Where are the girl pirates?
We bought this kit for my son and daughter. Mostly I love it but why no girl pirates? Representation is really important in kids toys. I ended up buying the pirate girl from the Series 20 minifigures off Ebay to add to the set. Now it is great :)

So much fun
I bought this for my 12 year old son for Christmas. In his own words he described it as a fun build, takes a little while to do but thoroughly enjoyed building it and playing with it

A great set for generations
I chose this set as I wanted to get a taste of LEGO again as an adult, one that I would enjoy now, and then my son in a decade. This set feels timeless to me, it brings back memories of the pirate sets I used to play, and as it's not bound to any specific franchise it should stand the test of time. It's also great that 3 builds are included with instructions, I haven't rebuilt it yet, but from the looks the alternatives are very decent as well. The build took a while, but apart from some strange color coding in the instructions, it's all clear. To top it all off, it came with a "free" VIP add-on pack Pirates and Treasure 40515, so I could pimp up the ship a bit (see pictures).

No, it doesn’t float
My daughter has been I love with everything pirates lately. So of course we needed to purchase this pirate ship when it came out. The building was easy enough for her to do with help. We were curious to see if it would float so we headed to the beach to set sail. Unfortunately it didn’t.

Love pirates! Cool ship. Complements Barracuda Bay
Only got back into lego after barracuda bay retired and was on the fence between this (since it's still on shelves) and the aftermarket. Opted to get Barracuda Bay in aftermarket and I love it... Although Barracuda Bay can be built back into the ship, I prefer it in island Form as there's more of a story happening than just the ship. Thus, I wanted a ship and opted to get this as well. In the end, I getting both, lol. It's detailed for the size. It looks way better in real life than on the box IMO. Worth the money. Barracuda is the better set, but this is also great for the price, size and piece count... Very nice detail with everything brick built. I didn't build the shark however, it looks too silly. Brick built sails are interesting too. Not ever bothering with alt builds, although they in itself look great.

Our first pirate ship! So awesome!
I’m kinda old and started doing lego recently and my girlfriend wanted a pirate ship bad so I got this one. It did not disappoint. We took turns doing bags over a few days. It was a fun time and very satisfying at the end. Looks awesome! Thanks lego! More pirate ships!!

3 models to build for the price of one
Personally, I really liked this LEGO set. There are 3 different models to build. A nice little island and a really well-built tavern. And the best part is the pirate ship. It reminded me of the pirate ship from my childhood. It is very well made. The building techniques are really well thought out without being too complicated. In short, for those who like to build with LEGO, this set is perfect and provides many hours of enjoyment.

LEGO quality
Fantastic. I like that you can build three different things with the same pieces... My 5-year-old son has a lot of fun and is able to follow the instructions quite easily. The pieces are solid, just like all LEGO!

Amazing value for money
Amazing value for money, you practically get 3 builds in one pack. All builds have character, I hadn't built a Lego set in 15 years, this was simply a creative, old school build with a well-thought-out system. Thoroughly enjoyed building this set and looking forward to more nostalgic entries in the Creator series in the future!

Two Sets for a Better Ship
The ship build with the original set (which I did first) was challenging and interesting, but I wanted three masts (see why below), so I purchased the second set and figured out how to modify the first set. I didn't use the pirate skull/crossbones on the sail as my build is not a pirate ship :-)
I bought the ship to display at a family reunion celebrating our ancestors immigration. However, it needed to be a similar replica to clipper ships, which were used around the 1860s for people emigrating from the United Kingdom and Ireland. These ships had three masts, whereas the pirate ship in this set only had two. I ended up adding the central portions of the second ship, which gave more realistic dimensions to the clipper ship (but still not the scale).
I also filled in the top deck, and added in a hatch, as I didn't like the open deck of the original model (I understand this is done to allow easy access to the canons for play).
I ended up with a lot of spare bricks! So I decided to make the Pirate Inn using what was left (I needed to add some more from my spare parts collection.) It took a little bit of creative thinking at times, but I got there in the end. I tend to modify most of the sets when I get them.
I'm pleased with the overall look of both models. See photos.
My only disappointment is that the instructions quite clearly show on pages 2, 5 and 7 that there are TWO barrels. However, there only ONE barrel in the bag (this was the same for the second set).
In the parts list of the second booklet (for Pirate Island) Part No 6278989 (the barrel) is listed as 1x. So I'm very confused, LEGO, as to whether there should be 2 barrels in the set, or one? If there should be two barrels in each set, then I am missing 2x barrels in total.
Apart from that disappointment, it's an enjoyable build, especially with the 3 in 1 aspect. I'm not that keen on the shark or birds, as they don't really seem to fit with the set (someone else commented they are a bit cartoonish, and I agree). However, that is minor. It would also be nice to have a female minifigure. However, these can be added from other sets.
