LEGO Castle of the Forsaken Emperor 70678

Our son was very excited to start building this new LEGO set. The set (according to the box) is for children from 9 years old. This was one of the reasons I built the LEGO with our 6-year-old. Another reason is... It's LEGO... When we opened the box, we first looked at all the bags and how beautiful and detailed the instructions were. The book has 260 pages and everywhere the steps are clearly illustrated and described, just as you are used to with LEGO. First up was the dragon. After unpacking the dragon's bags and laying everything out on the table, we started on it. The first thing that struck me was how big the dragon eventually became. The material used for the wings, a sturdy piece of plastic, fits perfectly around the LEGO. Furthermore, the head and tail consist of all sorts of connecting pieces, which you can rotate in all possible positions. After we had put the dragon together, we put the box aside for the rest of the day. Every day we built two bags. It's still fun to see that with each bag you are gradually expanding the overall picture. Next up was the castle itself. First, we made the rotating mechanism of the castle. This allows you to move the castle walls once the castle is finished. Again, it's great to see how little LEGO can achieve so much. The bottom of the towers are identical to each other, so building here was a bit faster. Also, the throne was nice to make. After the castle was finished, you could use a LEGO brick to open and close the castle walls, and the emperor was revealed. Finally, there is also a cannon tower to build with a real large crossbow on top. The crossbow itself is of course for decoration, but there are 2 special LEGO bricks with a spring inside, so you can still shoot the arrows. And they go quite far. There is plenty of fun to be had with this set. Also, the 7 figures in this set are beautifully detailed and create a nice overall picture for the set. All in all, we had a lot of fun with this LEGO set, and it's a shame that it's already built.
