How we rank gift sets
We combine set data with editorial weighting. BricksDeal curates price, stock and set information from multiple sources and compares it with the current lowest price, RRP and retailer availability. We then judge whether the set works as a gift — which is not the same as whether it is a good set.
The weighting consists of six signals:
- current lowest price versus RRP;
- age suitability: does the label match reality?
- number of retailers with stock;
- play value: what happens after the unwrapping?
- recognisability: does the recipient get the gift without explanation?
- gift suitability: does the box feel bigger than its price?
Those last two weigh heaviest in this guide. A gift gets no second chance: it has to land the moment it is unwrapped, for a 4-year-old just as much as for a colleague of 40.
Why small sets are so much cheaper online
Small LEGO sets are classic impulse buys: you grab one at the toy shop on the way to a party, and there you simply pay RRP. Online the picture is completely different. For the youngest builders: ages 2 to 6
Under age 6 one rule applies: the character makes the gift. A toddler recognises Bluey before the box is even open, a preschooler sees Ariel and is sold. Between ages 7 and 12, the gaming room is the best gift inspiration. Mario Kart and Minecraft are the two strongest licences at this price point: recognisable, collectible and — unlike many parents expect — almost always heavily discounted. A gift for an adult
The hardest gift is the adult who claims to need nothing. Sinterklaas, Christmas and the rest of the year
This guide is deliberately not tied to a season: the small-gift problem is a year-round problem. Still, there are two peaks worth planning for. For the shoe, the sets under fifteen euros work best — the McLaren, Ariel’s stage and the Minecraft patrol are classic shoe sizes. Where to buy small LEGO sets
All ten sets are widely stocked in Dutch webshops. Bol.com and Amazon.nl take turns being cheapest on the best-known licences, Alternate and Proshop regularly undercut on the Botanicals flowers, and MediaMarkt and Coolshop unexpectedly dive below the rest on gaming licences. LEGO.com holds RRP, but is the surest place for sets that have just sold out elsewhere.

When to buy and when to wait
