Space is LEGO’s quiet evergreen. Without film premieres or anniversary logos, the theme simply keeps growing every year: the big City and Creator wave of 2024 now sits deeply discounted in the shops, the Technic NASA line gained its third big model in early 2026 with the Artemis SLS rocket, and the line-up runs from 4+ play sets to 18+ display pieces. Anyone shopping for a space-mad kid, a science lover or themselves has more choice — and more discount — in 2026 than ever.

On 12 June 2026 BricksDeal tracked every space set across dozens of Dutch shops; each set in this ranking can be compared at fourteen or more retailers. We ranked them by current lowest price, RRP, age suitability, availability, build experience and display value.

The common thread: first decide whether you want a play set or a building model. A six-year-old gets nothing out of nearly two thousand Technic pieces, and an adult Apollo fan will not be thrilled by a 4+ box. Only once that choice is right does price become the filter.
How we rank space sets
We combine set data with editorial weighting. BricksDeal curates price, stock and set information from multiple sources and compares it with the current lowest price, RRP and retailer availability. We then judge whether the set genuinely fits whoever will actually build or play with it.
The weighting consists of six signals:
- current lowest price versus RRP;
- age suitability: does the label match reality?
- number of retailers with stock;
- build experience: how many hours and how much engineering is in it?
- display value: does the model still stand for something after the build?
- realism: does the model match the real spacecraft?
With space sets that last signal weighs heavier than in any other theme. The NASA models are bought by people who know the difference between a booster and a core stage — a model that mangles reality gets found out mercilessly.
NASA realism or play value: two flavours
The space theme consists of two clearly separated worlds. The Technic NASA line (42158, 42182 and 42221) recreates existing spacecraft with working functions: suspension, steering, launch stages. These are building models for older kids and adults, without minifigures, focused on understanding how something works. City and Creator form the play side: fantasy spaceships, robots, aliens and asteroids for kids aged 4 to around 8. The build is secondary here, the story is the point. Why space sets are sharply priced right now
The explanation is simple: the big City and Creator space wave dates from 2024, and sets that sit on shelves for two years drop in price structurally. Almost the entire wave stands a quarter to thirty percent below RRP, at dozens of shops at once. More striking is that the fresh Artemis rocket joins straight in: well over a quarter off within months of release is exceptional for a NASA set.
There is more to be had beyond this top 10. The City Space Base and Rocket Launchpad — the flagship of the wave — sits around forty percent below RRP and only missed the cut because fewer shops stock it. The Technic Lunar Outpost Moon Rover from 2025 and the Friends Mars Space Base are strong alternatives for anyone who already owns the top 10, and the Mars Crew Exploration Rover is Perseverance’s big sci-fi sibling. Display-worthy: space for adults
Alongside Star Wars and Icons architecture, spaceflight is one of the few themes where LEGO addresses adults directly. The Space Astronaut is the best proof: a posable display model that punches above its price bracket. The Earth-and-Moon orrery sits on many a teacher’s and science lover’s desk, and the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft brings a genuine piece of shuttle history — Enterprise’s test flights on the back of a Boeing 747 — to the bookshelf.

Buying a gift for a space fan
A few rules of thumb from our data. For a fourth or fifth birthday, Spaceship and Asteroid Discovery is the safest pick; from six, the Interstellar Spaceship becomes the standard gift. Around eight the Space Robot does well, and from nine or ten the real NASA models begin: first the Artemis rocket or the orrery, then Perseverance. The Apollo lunar rover and the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft are gifts for adults — or for yourself.
For birthdays, mind the budget floor of the theme: the Creator Space Shuttle stays under ten euros and the two small City sets cost barely more. Where to buy LEGO space sets in the Netherlands
The theme is stocked widely. Bol.com and Amazon.nl take turns as the cheapest for the City and Creator sets, Alternate and Proshop regularly dive under everyone on the Technic NASA models, and Conrad, MediaMarkt and Coolshop rotate aggressive per-set prices. LEGO.com is the surest place for the newest releases such as the Artemis rocket — at RRP, but sometimes with a free gift set on top.

When to buy and when to wait
Buying makes sense for the 2024 wave: City and Creator sets sit at discount levels that rarely go deeper outside Black Friday, and after three years Perseverance is nearing the end of its production run — waiting there can mean the set disappears instead of dropping. Waiting can pay off for the Apollo lunar rover, which sits virtually at RRP and occasionally moves around promo periods, and perhaps for the fresh Artemis rocket.
If you don’t want to check prices daily, set a free price alert on the set you want: you’ll automatically get a message as soon as a shop lowers the price. For a theme as widely available as space, that is the most relaxed route to the best deal.
