Intertoys is the largest physical toy store chain in the Netherlands, with more than 175 stores. That is its strongest argument: nearly every city has one, they stay open late in December, and you can walk out with a LEGO set immediately. But on price, Intertoys moves slowly. Price drops do not track the market in real time and online prices sit consistently above Bol.com. For those who want certainty and immediate availability, especially around Sinterklaas, the calculation is different.

What Intertoys does and does not offer
Wide enough for children. The kids LEGO catalogue up to around 200 euros RRP is complete: City, Friends, Ninjago, Minecraft, Marvel, Star Wars. For a birthday or Sinterklaas gift for a child, you will always find something suitable at Intertoys.
Not for collectors. Modular Buildings, UCS Star Wars, premium Icons sets: none of these are stocked. Not online either. Intertoys explicitly targets the children’s audience and buys its inventory accordingly.
Own stock, no partner risk. Everything Intertoys sells is its own inventory. No counterfeit risk, no unreliable third party, no surprises at the door. That is a concrete advantage over Bol.com partners and Amazon third-party sellers.
The price reality
Online, Intertoys sits structurally 5 to 10 percent above Bol.com. That sounds small, but on an 80-euro set the gap runs to 4 to 8 euros. Measured over a year, you pay more at Intertoys for identical sets than at Bol.com unless you buy at exactly the right moment.
Those moments are: Black Friday week (end of November) and the Sinterklaas run-up from October. Intertoys then reaches price drops close to Bol.com’s level, but rarely drops below it. I have seen Intertoys win on a specific City set that Bol.com happened not to have on promotion, but that is the exception, not the rule.
When to choose Intertoys
After 1 December for Sinterklaas. If you order online after 1 December, delivery by 5 December is not guaranteed. Intertoys stores are open with extended hours and have physical stock. This is the scenario where I actively recommend Intertoys.
When children want to choose for themselves. Sets are displayed open on shelves. A seven-year-old picking their own set experiences that very differently from scrolling through a webshop.
If you have the Intertoys Club. The free 10 percent birthday coupon is worth 6 euros on a 60-euro set. Combine that with a Sinterklaas promotion and it can become genuinely competitive.
For small sets under 25 euros. The price gap with online is small enough that shipping costs flip the balance. Buying in-store at Intertoys is here practically equal to ordering from Bol.com.
When to skip Intertoys
- You want the lowest price on sets above 60 euros. Bol.com wins here almost every time.
- You want an 18+ set. Intertoys does not carry them.
- You want easy price comparison: Intertoys promotions are less transparent online than at Bol.com or Amazon.nl.
