The build quality, aesthetic and size of this set is incredible. Bought it on sale for half off but would have gladly paid full price. Really good piece count for the price, and the building experience is very engaging the whole way through.
This set completely took me back 40 years. It reminds me of the days when I would spend hours playing with the LEGO Space series, building different fantasies every single day.
I grew up with Blacktron ever since I was born in 1987. The Renegade was my favorite space battleship. I purchased & built 2 of the Renegade sets in the year 2025 & the build blew me off my socks. I love this set so much that I can’t see it retire but I really love to see Blacktron keep on selling instead of being discontinued. I’m always a Blacktron fan & I always support the Blacktron Fan Community because I have a lot of love & passion for Blacktron. It would break my heart if Blacktron was discontinued. Discontinuation of Blacktron really hurts me & all of the Blacktron Fan Community.
One of the best purchases that I have ever made, but part quality let me down. I had 1 incorrectly molded piece, and multiple that had HUGE seams running through.
I leave my Lego out for my Grandson - Classic Space through to Space Police. However the 18+ on this build also bleeds into small playability niggles. Everytime the grandson touches something random comes off - EXCEPT the 4 parts that are supposed too. A few things here and there is normal in play, but not this much. IE the old Classic Space bendy tubing always pops off in play, but little else. He just can't seperate them, and using "clip plates" over "Technic" peg & hole will break with time/misuse. It's also a shame that it isn't backwards compatible with the Original Blacktron kits - as he does cross match them. It would have taken a great product to a flawless one. Recommended for mostly display and not much play, sadly.

Brilliant build and some nifty rebuild and rearrangement options. Kids have loved playing with it. Do feel it’s overpriced at the £89.99 mark though.
This was a fun set to build, but the nostalgic and visual aesthetics are what really pushed me to make this purchase. I absolutely LOVE a lot of Lego themes from the 80s and 90s, but the Space themes and its subthemes really stand out. What really makes these sets stand out are their contrasting color palettes as well as the bright "see-through" pieces that gives each subtheme its own sense of individuality. The Blacktron theme was iconic, but I would love to also see some other themes make a comeback such as Ice Planet or Insectiods.
As a grown up LEGO Maniac, building this set instantly took me back to being a kid in the early 90s playing with my Blacktron minifigs. Seriously, there was nothing cooler back then than the all black helmet/visor combo. The nostalgia factor on this set is 10/10. The value for this set is also great. $100 for a set this big and with this much play value is seriously cool. The mechanisms for picking up/dropping off the little vehicle are also really neat. My only drawback on this set is that it's got a LOT of repetitive building steps on the main ship. After the fifteenth time doing the same connector setup, I was over it. I had a much better experience putting together the alternate build, which still had some of the same repetitive connection gimmick but on a much smaller scale. It also takes up a smaller footprint in my room so I think I'll keep it built as the alternate. Overall I think this is a really great set and I'd definitely recommend it at the price point it's at, especially if you grew up playing with these sets. I just wish it had a bit more of a fun building experience.
Excellent set that brings back nostalgia. The newer version it much too as the original. I will recommend to everyone from the era to get it.
This was a fun build and is a great "swooshing" spaceship. It's modular, but can't connect to the blacktron cruiser without a little modification. I this the real loss is not being able to connect to the new city space sets. If we had a black airlock price the renegade and cruiser could easily swoop in and acquire a city space module left unprotected and modify it to meet blacktrons needs. I would love to see more classic remakes in the future. The new city space sets will be my kids "classic space" and I hope lego keeps it going.
I really loved this build and the look of the set is just fantastic! You build the vehicles first and then build up the ship itself slowly through the rest of the bags. Some of the building techniques really surprised me. If you're a fan of classic Lego space themes, or just looking for the baddest looking spaceship you can find, I highly recommend picking this up. Really cool play functions as well for such a throwback set.
The Renegade was one of my most beloved sets as a kid in the 1980s (still own it) so when I heard that this was coming I knew I was getting it day 1. The build is not complex but still enjoyable. My 6 year old had fun helping me for part of the build. I really like the redesign outside of the front opposite the pilot ship, it needs to be more sloped. Everything else is nicely done and goes great as a rival to the Galaxy Explorer. I hope they continue to release these vintage reimaginings of the classic themes. I would love to see the classic space and Blacktron bases and rover vehicles in the future.
So I love building Lego, but I’m kinda new to this. I’m building this with my boyfriend and I saw the robot guy and was SOOO excited to build him. And then when I do, there’s words on his face.. like the “Lego” plus the serial number or whatever. I was so disappointed. But it’s still fun! I just wish the little transparent face on the robot didn’t have letters & numbers all over it. :( Lego is amazing though :)

The new Renegade was a great build and with no stickers it was fantastic. My child and I built the set. The playability and robustness of the set are exemplary. The problem lies in the material for the windscreens… upon receipt they are already scored and it wasn’t noticeable to most but the time it took to build had my focus shift to the small details. I ordered my set from LEGO Japan and the care in delivery is always the best. The package was unscathed but the damage was from the canopies just shifting in the bags. LEGO Japan is working my parts issue and LEGO Japan is taking care of my concerns but maybe having easily worn items in a protective package would be ideal.
The thing that got me back into Lego after decades was the reimagined galaxy explorer, I simply love it, Lego space brings out the purest old time Lego passion. Naturally I couldn't resist the blacktron cruiser, but what I wanted to see was more blacktron and especially it's largest and most beloved cruiser, the renegade. I just finished building it and it's such a beautiful piece, it felt like an authentic Lego space building experience, it looks like blacktron, it feels like blacktron, it plays like blacktron. It is simply an amazing set. Thank you so much Lego for releasing this one, and please, please continue releasing classic space stuff, I know so many of us love it, I never owned any blacktron as a child, and I always regretted it, and now you've given me a second chance to own beautiful blacktron sets, thank you so much.
Got the Renegade yesterday! My 8-year-old son and I built it together, and he absolutely loves it. He’s already asking about the whole backstory of Blacktron, so I shared the version I came up with when I was his age. Such an awesome set—the modularity is incredible, and it reminds me of everything I love about the classic LEGO factions. No big IPs, just pure creativity, where we could build anything we wanted with the sets we had and let our imaginations run wild.
The original Blacktron Renegade was my all time favourite lego set. This remake is a fantastic homage to the original and a welcome return of the Blacktron theme. I hope we see more.
