As advertised and working perfectly from the beginning.
I am not sure everyone understands the expert level of this hub, when combined with multiple motors or in my case, two motors, a color/distance sensor and light. I built a 9,000+ brick Lego train shed complete with a very complicated gantry crane. One motor was used for the back and forth drive system, one for the crane lift and lower, a sensor for the stop limits on it's tracks and lights (just because they look GREAT!). The coding took a great deal of patience and I have only scratched the surface as to each and every feature. This battery hub, when combined with the XL motors and gear reduction, has given me an awesome lifting capability. I can lift an entire locomotive off the tracks and reposition it to another section of track and the motors don't even show any signs of strain. Get it - 'sTRAIN.' haha I see now there is even a bigger battery box and the ideas of using that for an expansion is really exciting. If you want to see my "1913" train shed gantry crane in action go over to YouTube and search for Lego Modified 10027. And if you aren't going to get into coding and use this to its full potential, it may simply be too much for you!
The product arrived quickly and works perfectly. Happy child!!!
I have four of these now, I admit that I love what they are capable of. Caveats: 1. There is NO documentation for programming with the Powered Up app. 2. As of this review, there doesn't seem to be any Xbox or Playstation controller support. You can only use the Powered Up controller (88010) or your smartphone. 3. I bought this, and two motors, and spent around $170 before tax. If you buy the" App-Controlled Transformation Vehicle" (42140) you get the Hub, two L motors, and a bunch of other stuff... for $150 before tax. I love the product, but I had to turn to YouTube for programming help. Also, I do not understand why it is cheaper to get more stuff.
Good product, excellent quality for the price.
I almost made the big mistake of buying a technic hub and 2 XL motors individually today. Luckily I went back and changed it for 1XL motor and the off-road buggy. So I end up paying 11$CAD more than before, but I have one more motor (L and XL have almost exactly the same specs so I don't mind having 2 L motors and 1 XL). I also get about 350 technic pieces in the set including expansive pieces like the new differential, a few gears, 4 shock absorbers, nice wheels, etc. So this is weird. They could sell more of these parts individually with a lower price. But people will end up buying it from third party sellers for half the price.
After 2 hubs from 2 sets and one replacement sent from customer service, and trying all possible solutions I still can't get a connection to two different devices. Devices faulty because it does seem to update.
I'm super glad that LEGO decided to sell the Technic CONTROL+ hub and motors separately, but really??? $90 for the hub and $40 each for the motors??? Why would I spend $180 for one of each when I can get ALL THREE plus another 400+ parts with the Top Gear Rally car for $130?!? This should have been priced at $50, with the motors at $25 each...then they would be more consistent with the pricing of the full sets. Until they drop the price, go get the Top Gear Rally Car instead.
