LEGOs are the best for building with my grandson. He is 7 years old and has been building them since he was 3. He feels a sense of accomplishment because he can read and understand the instructions. He has learned to visualize things from any angle and recognize them by shape. We have used other building kits, but they have problems, such as poor instructions and pieces that sometimes don't fit. The customer service line is also very helpful for any questions. If there is a missing part (I haven't had this happen in over two years; it seems that the quality control has improved), they replace it instantly. The same goes for broken pieces. I once had an item that developed cracks in two pieces (they were the same) and LEGO replaced them without any questions. I still had the instruction book and was able to identify them using the pieces guide in the back. LEGOs are the best for building with my grandson.
