What other can i say apart from the fact that this is a brilliant set? This set offers wonderful play experience and the pneumatic system is amazing! I would definitely definitely recommend.
I have been a Lego user since I was about 6 and as I grew, I got to know about Technic. I had my eyes on this set for about 2 years and finally made the purchase. It was pure fun to see the whole truck come to life following the instructions. I thoroughly enjoyed assembling the Gear Mechanisms, the Pneumatic arms and the whole truck as well. The Technic series is best for those will some understanding about the gear mechanisms, that is when you'll be able to truely appreciate what Lego has created. At this cost, I just wish Lego had included the Remote control ( IR ) controllers and an additional motor to play around.
I loved this build. It was the most challenging lego build I've had, but found it so rewarding. I love building technic gearboxes, and this one blew my mind. The torque in those little motors impressed me, until this set i had been using a couple of motors from the 90s and they've gone a bit weak. The most challenging part of the build was the pneumatic arm, although I feel this was made more challenging from having slightly poor instructions. The pneumatic arm moves slightly slow in reaction to the controls, but I guess this is a small gripe as it is very playable. I very much enjoy the action of the piston on in the engine block (I had been looking forward to adding these parts to my collection). I am more than happy with the finished look of the project, it is very well designed and does not at all look skeletal like other technic sets can. The front grille is just lovely. One big gripe I have is that there were three pieces missing, which were small and not common and I was lucky were in my collection. Overall a brilliantly designed and beautifully crafted set with much playability.
LEGO Technic, I always thought this was for children, but my husband is very fond of it. It's also a very nice set.
This thing is huge, physically the biggest Technic model i've built and the most complex (currently half way through the 911 which i'm finding easier and more enjoyable!). It does get a little repetitive and arduous at times, its not a model for those who want a quick and exciting build but once you battle through the end result is satisfying! Some of the pipework routing in the manual is rubbish... you have to figure the odd bit out as its not clear in the instructions at one point, luckily its logical. One reason i bought it is its the modern version of kid 8868 which i had as a kid (and looks like a toy in comparison to this one!)
What else can I say apart from what has already been said? This is an amazing set, and as an Electrical Engineer whose Lego bug has just been rekindled, this was the ideal stepping stone for my transition to an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego). It has superb details, amazing functions through an ingenious gear box, and absolutely HUGE play value. The sheer number of parts alone make this worth buying, let alone the sheer amount of customisations that can be applied to it. The set is quite big, bigger than what I was expecting. To give you an idea, you can see how big it is, next to the HULK. It even dwarfs the Star Wars UCS Tie Fighter (also shown in images). In terms of building, it took me longer than most as I would always start just before bedtime, which wasn't ideal as I nodded off a fair few times, which is not recommended as Technic pins and beams aren't the most comfortable pillows. I had to double back on my build at a few points as I wasn't paying attention, so it does need a bit of caution when building. It was just the right amount of challenge without it being too intricate or straightforward. To summarise, this is a fantastic set with limitless play value. It is highly recommended for anyone and will make a splendid addition to anyone's collection.
This is the first new LEGO I have built in over 25 years, and marks my return to one of the greatest pleasures of my earlier years. And what a return! This is without a doubt the most impressive Technic model I have ever seen or built, and I would recommend it to anyone without any hesitation whatsoever. This model has it all: power functions, pneumatics, and it also looks the part too; this is a really nice vehicle which really looks close to, if not better in some respects than the real thing. Pros: - Power functions driving an impressive gear train to select four different functions: tipping the truck bed, extending the stabilisers, rotating the grab arm and driving the compressor - Impressive pneumatic functions: two pistons control the angle of the grab arm, one extends the arm and a final small one opens and closes the grab itself - Straight six cylinder engine driving (or driven by!) by the eight rear wheels, which have suspension and a separate differential for each axle - Incredibly detailed cab with Mercedes-Benz livery, which tilts to expose the engine just like on a real truck - Front steering via a hand-of-god knobs is well done, with independent suspension for each wheel - Locking back door on truck bed, which opens during tilting - Cab and platform on the side of the cab are sized appropriately for Technic figures from earlier models, so they can drive the truck and operate the controls (see the photos!) - Clutch gear on the grab arm turn/stabiliser extending functions prevents damage when these reach their limits and come to a hard stop - The pneumatic lines are routed through colour-coded T elements which makes some of the instructions easier to follow - The diagrams in the instruction booklet were easy to follow, and perhaps broken up into too many steps compared with the earlier instructions I was used to, but were easy to follow; I only made a few mistakes due to my own fault and these were thankfully easy to rectify without dismantling too much! All the controls for the functions operate well, with a few caveats I'll mention below. (Very minor) cons: - Due to the weight of the grab arm, the arm can drop abruptly when lowering the arm; this can be prevented by being very careful with the valve operation, so that the air doesn't escape very quickly. This isn't a design flaw in the model as such, it's a limitation of how the pneumatic valves operate. The weight can also mean it takes a good bit of time to raise the arm since it takes the compressor a while to build up enough pressure in the system. - The amount of pneumatic lines running through the centre of the turntable (8) makes the turning action ever so slightly stiff and this can lead to jerky turning motion due to the clutch slipping. This got better on my second build of the model due to dust making the lines stick to each other less--when brand new out of the box there was a good bit of friction between them. Fiddling with the precise amount of slack and routing of the lines helped a little bit, but didn't eliminate this entirely. - The compressor and tilting mechanism could have used a clutch gear; when I dismantled it to build the alternative model, the axle driving the compressor had noticeable wear I think due to the load put on it when the pressure is high and all the pistons are at their limits, and the linear actuator ground horribly at the limits of the bed tilt if not quick enough to stop the motor - The stickers aren't compatible with the alternative build; it uses a reversed arrangement of two of the pneumatic valves, and some of the valve control stickers are out of place on the alternate model due to where you need to place the pieces. The valve arrangement could have easily been made the same--it's just a matter of switching the routing of the lines, I think. - The instructions showing the routing of the pneumatic lines could have been clearer. I was not much in doubt of which line went to which nozzle of which valve, but the spatial arrangement of how the lines were routed around each other was not as clear as it perhaps could have been. Note that these are very minor criticisms, and I have absolutely no regrets about purchasing this model. It was an absolute blast to build, with very different parts to it to make it not get too repetitive -- the main chassis and engine, the gear train, the pneumatic arm, the cab, and the bed. Seeing it come together bit by bit was great! And I've spent hours playing with it after building it. The slow, majestic sweep of the truck bed tilting up and down, the rapid open and close of the grab, and the graceful raising of the grab arm are all just a wonder to behold. The amount of functionality crammed into the model is incredible, and the result is a technical wonder you'll marvel at for hours.
Received this as a Christmas present, and knew I was going to love it. the level of detail just from the images suggested the high quality of the build. From start to finish I thoroughly enjoyed the build with the instructions making life so much easier, the new power features are an absolute joy to use (although they were fiddly to fit) and with the added purchase of power led lights, really makes the model come alive. Highly recommend!
Pads are of good quality, with a beautiful Mercedes design. They provide both fun and excitement during installation.
This was great fun. Took my time and made the build last for 18 hours. 6per day on a Fri, Sat and Sun. A bit pricey but totally worth the money. Lots of great pieces and new ways of making incredibly cool functions. The chassis suspension, differentials and drive-shaft were my favorite part. It looks amazing from underneath when you pick it up and look at the final product.
In my opinion, the Lego Arocs looks a whole lot better than the real thing. I love this truck. Even my Unimog was a little nervous at first, until it realized they were cousins. This took me about four days to build, starting in early afternoon until bed time to complete. Believe me, it was hard tearing myself away from the build just to go to work, but I managed. The truck is a good looking monster of a machine. It's pretty heavy for a Lego, even by Technic standards. The build was pretty challenging in some areas, but it all went together without a hitch. I find that I have no problems with the turntable binding or any other issue. The crane works well. It still has the sudden drop when not feathering the controls properly, but it's fun to master. The outriggers come out smoothly and the dump works flawlessly. As far as the build itself, I had visions of shortening some of the pneumatic lines once everything was completed, hoping it would create smoother lines and get rid of any binding turntable problems, but as I said, I have none of these issues. The pneumatic lines look pretty clean as they are, and I don't have any pinching issues which would have created slow or no movement of the appendages. My bucket closes quickly and sharply, and the crane does what's asked of it. I did spend a great deal of time running those lines to avoid future issues. Some of the lines could be shortened, but I didn't have the need. As far as instructions go, running the lines did, at one point, become slightly confusing. When running the lines to the control boxes, the pictures don't do an adequate job of showing where each small blue line goes. The cross section shows where on the manifold to insert them, but doesn't paint a clear picture of which line goes where. Common sense prevailed, however, because I assumed that after making the tree, the lines were inserted into the manifold they were closest to. Secondly, I still don't really know what #'s 100 and 101 are telling you to do. There's a circle around an obvious red pin, but there's a second circle around pretty much nothing. I assume it's basically telling you to do the same thing on the other side. Again, common sense, but it eluded me at first. All in all it was fantastically fun to build, and the end result is spectacular. There are several more pneumatic lines in comparison to the Unimog, and they look great. Like the Unimog, the steering is a bit heavy, but adds realism since it's easy to steer while rolling. The huge bed is really cool, and it's fun to watch it as it raises to dump. Like other reviewers, I found the cab to be highly detailed and impressive looking. It's a great set, and patience while building will be rewarded.
This set is AWESOME!!! I recommend this product a lot!! It is worth the money! This set has a lot of play-ability to it! It is a HUGE step up from the Lego Technic Unimog!! I REALLY recommend this set to any type of Lego fan because it is fun to build and play with!!! The new pneumatic system works great! I will never regret buying this set!!!
Very beautiful new LEGO Technic model, extra fun, the control with air (pneumatics) is back, but now only controlled with a motor and cylinder pump. I was able to complete it within a week despite the very large number of parts (2793). This model is a real recommendation.
The Mercedes Accros is wonderfully detailed and looks great! Building it is a real pleasure, and now my son has put it on display.
Once the package arrived, I immediately started building; a very beautiful set! Many parts and a very clear instruction manual! There were a few minor errors, but that actually encourages creativity! Now that it's finished (after a total of 12 hours of building!!) it has a very nice place in the display case. A real recommendation for LEGO Technic enthusiasts! Furthermore, Bol's service was excellent! Constant updates about the shipment and very neatly packaged!
This is what a 2.793-piece set gives you, at $229.99 you get one of the best Technic sets in Lego history. The 42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 and it's B-Model Arocs 1845 is the successor to the well-received 8110 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U400, whereas the latter was designed as an all-around go anywhere model truck, the Arocs is a heavy duty construction truck, think of it as a Mercedes-Benz Actros that went to the gym and decided it will work at construction sites for most of its life cycle. The biggest factors I was worried when I first heard Lego was making another Mercedes-Benz model were if the truck has a dually setup and a proper Straight-6 engine which I'll get covered throughout my review. First things first, this is a superset and currently holds the record for being the biggest set in Technic history and the third set to pass the 2,000-piece mark that was a feat made by it's predecessor 8110 when it came out with 2,048 pieces. The truck is not quite as striking in size as the Unimog but you can tell that it's big because of the striking height and the amount of detail it has. This set is not your usual "I'll do this is 8-12 hours straight" which I'm fond of doing when I get my large Lego sets. It took me close to 20 hours spread over 5 days to complete it, you'll appreciate every detail put in this model as you complete the 6 sections (I decided to modify/ change some parts that's also why I have nearly 20 hours put in this build). Bags came numbered to 6 sections so even if it is a challenging build you won't have a hard time trying to figure out where's that part which I really appreciate from Lego. Being based on an actual truck, the 42043 has details like a working suspension system, a proper drivetrain, and dually tires. As far as the suspension is concerned, this is one of the most advanced one I've seen in a large Lego truck after 2 years of buying vehicle sets, the front suspension stands firm to hold the weight and the same goes over the rear, Lego used the new ball and socket suspension parts to replicate the real truck's leaf spring setup, for a truck this scale the suspension works very well. An industry standard among heavy trucks (Class 8 and above) is the usage of Inline-6 cylinder engine, these are large displacement units which compared to V-8s, V-10s, V-12s are very efficient and both A and B models feature the same I-6 setup, you roll the truck you can actually hear the cylinder heads moving and it is connected to the rear axles. As far as differentials are concerned this has 2 of them which was missing from the 8258, 8285 and 9397 models as a result you don't to buy the differential or find one from your spare parts bin. another touch of detail that I really are the wheels and tires, yes they are small (I wished Lego designed a larger diameter tire for this one) but you get 12 of them and the real truck's dually setup was carried over to the model we have. The HOG steering system is one of the best I've seen, it's not a new approach but a rare method used for Technic sets (I guess), you have these beacon lights that are connected to the HOG steering shaft the steers all 4 front wheels and this results to "hidden" system which in turn gives the truck a smooth looking finish. One of the set's biggest highlights is the Pneumatics 2.0, these are longer and stronger pneumatic cylinders with a redesigned port for connecting the pneumatic pipes (these pipes come pre-cut just get a ruler to make sure you're connecting the right size to the right spot) and they do the lifting duties for the crane which almost looks like the Palfinger units we see in Unimogs, Zetros, Actros, and Arocs trucks. These units are strong and able to hold air better, at it's end is a pair of clamshell buckets that can hold small parts and I really love this approach. While previous sets featured an M-Motor to do all the Power Functions features, this and the 42042 follows the footsteps of the 9398 and 41999 Rock Crawler sets, it's strong but not as crazy strong as an XL-Motor. It has enough torque to power all motorized features you get in this set. Outriggers, they feature new parts which is also featured in the pneumatic crane, the new design is 14M long and is strong enough to withstand stress when extended and used to lift the truck's front section and NO you don't push the the manually operated parts to it's maximum because it's not really going to work, you might end up breaking a small gear because that's not how it's designed. You operate the outriggers to the extent it will make the truck stable while operating the crane. Tipping function is superb, there is only one large linear actuator but it works seamlessly, the bed felt small for me so I made my version taller, still works fine. While some might complain about the outriggers that they are suited for terrain or over similar environment let me point out that this model - based on the Arocs 3240 grounder - the type of truck you'll see in construction sites and not in mining sites so it's much more of a "I'll go the site and clear out large stones, sand what have you" it's basically a road going truck with construction in mind. You get to play it's functions even better with the new transmission pieces first introduced in the 42039 Le Mans car, unlike the old transmission piece, this one holds the other functions steady and not move, and YES you can operate 2 functions at once without fully damaging the set though I still wouldn't do that. A note when building the crane too: As it rotates to only 180 degrees, it will be achieved if you test and just bolt the pipes in, mine works just fine and so far I haven't encountered it not doing the 180. I guess it's just on how it's built by it's owner. The cab design is clean and you can actually move it to reveal the Straight-6 engine underneath, doors open and there's even a handle and extra sidestep on the driver's side. I did some video research on the truck too and I found that there is an Arocs model that features the 3-slat design for it's grill, the video is in Youtube and it was released just right at the same time the Arocs was. Lego did an amazing job designing that "toothed" grill along with the use of flick-fire missile parts to hold the flat panels. There is one thing that really caught my attention when building this model, I had to call Lego Customer Service because one of the bags (bag tagged #3) was opened inside the set, I was supposed to build it on my birthday November 2nd but was forced to do an early build because of this issue well luckily the bag was only opened and wasn't missing any parts because that will have been a bigger headache. I hope the bags are tougher to avoid this little issue. Your people at Customer service are very courteous and assured me if there was indeed a missing piece it will be sent to me. SO will I recommend this set? YES, get this and you will not regret it. A fantastic set for young truck lovers and collectors of any age, it clearly achieves it's purpose as a toy that is a sold 100%, tons of detail and I can spend all day just staring at this set, I think I have never seen a very detailed Lego Technic set as much as the 42043 Arocs is right now. For one to even fully appreciate the set in it's entirety I wouldn't make it RC I mean that's just how I see it, that little kid in me still wants to be the hands on collector, operate the functions and make sounds as if it was really real. I had such a great time building this set that recommend this to every Lego fan out there, as a purchase or gift I'm sure you'll never regret spending $230 for this big guy! 100/100
This was definitely the best Lego Technic I have ever built. It has a lot of pieces including some I have never seen before. The rods that attached to the excavator where unique. They were kinda hard to attach. All the functions of the final product are amazing. Overall, it was awesome.
My 8yo son received this as a gift for his 8th birthday. He struggled with the pneumatics so I had to build them all myself. Him and I invested a total of 8 hours over 4 days to build the model. Wishing it had the capability to add the IR remote and motor for the drive functions but overall, an awesome build!
This truck is masterfully designed and works like a charm! The steering system is ingenious along with the suspension system. The outriggers go out without a hitch, the tipper body tips nice and smoothly, the crane rotation works well to its limits, and the pneumatic pump seems to run a little slower than it should, but that could be because of the batteries I put in the battery box. The building process was enjoyable the entire time and a little confusing at some points with regards to how to attach some parts to some areas. This set has only 1 major problem, the ground clearance under the outrigger feet. There is hardly enough space there to fit a 1 stud tall piece under neath. This issue almost renders the entire suspension system useless. Luckily this problem is easily fixable. All that has to be done is to replace the red 7 stud long beam with a shorter beam and the problem is solved. Other than that issue this set is otherwise issue free! The cab is just incredible in the amount of detail that it has! The extra side mirrors are a great touch and the Mercedes emblem on the front is very impressive. The grill is ingeniously designed and the doors are best I've seen on a Lego set! I like the fact that this set has dual tires on the rear axles because that's something that has been missing from Technic sets for far too long. The dual axle drive is also a nice, realistic feature that's been missing for too long. This set even has yellow tire stoppers included in the rear! A very realistic and nice detail there! The crane is full of LOTS of pneumatic tubing and the tubes can get in the way of other tubes during the building process. This mainly occurs in the early stages of the crane build when there are still tubes being attached to the valve switches though. The crane works really well and the new pneumatic cylinders are great! The cargo bed is stunning with its size and load capacity! The lock feature on the flap of the cargo bed is amazingly simple and effective. Overall I give this set a 9.9/10 because of the ground clearance issue. This set is definitely up there in complexity and requires a lot of patience to finish the long building process.(the instruction booklet is 471 pages long after all) This is an incredible set and a definite must have for any big Technic collector or even just a general Technic fan with a decent amount of Technic experience! I would recommend this set to any body that likes complex and functional sets!
From start to finish this model keeps you on your toes, no short cuts allowed or not reading the page properly as I found out the hard way, one small axle does a lot of work. Amazed how every thing was crammed into such a tight space whilst still giving all the functions of the real machine. The pneumatic system, extending boom excellent fun, the controls are very sensitive till you get used to them. The size of the model is excellent, you can get loads into the tipper and the suspension works a dream. Model B looks another excellent build. Excellent flag ship model for 2015.
