I used it to make a turret with a linear motor and it works well
Ugh, I am an AFOL and parent with a great enthusiasm for lego. I wanted to light up my collection of Christmas lego and was so excited to find lights! This item was recommended with the lights, and I assumed it was the only way to use them. I thought it was a crazy price but I has a vision of my lego Christmas village all lit up and did it. Well many hours and tutorials later I finally have the lights turning on. And it was all very underwhelming. I wish I could return it all. I just wanted a battery. And in looking for that not I see it is a crazy price too. I’m over a hundred in for terrible lighting. AND it’s only on while I have my phone and app open!?? Don’t bother is this is what you are looking for.
Main problem is it requires you to unscrew two tiny screws and then wrestle with 6 tiny batteries. You might want to buy a new charger if yours charges 4 at a time. I fixed mine by replacing the batteries with a 9v li-ion battery with a micro-usb charging socket on the side. Then cut a small hole in the side of the battery box casing so you can directly charge it without unscrewing anything (see pictures).
Some design improvements necessary. Lego - with soooo much experience and user knowledge at your disposal why not create something sooo much better? The Power Hub could be usb rechargeable like every other electrical product in the world, instead of needing 10 lithium batteries for this and the remote. Also, it's really annoying having to find the mini screwdriver every time to take this apart - why not just have a click-in lid to the battery compartment? I don't want to buy a cheap knock-off that does the job better. I love your products and don't want to go that way. Please don't become just another brainless money-making company - remember your customers!
I got 2 of these when I purchased 2x of the latest passenger train (connected back to back). I removed the hub and motor at the rear and used it in my Emerald Night. I tested with bt remote and phone app .... 2x motors (one reversed), lights and colour sensor all work perfect. However, I have the passenger loco running with a motor in port A and the lights in port B, but I have nowhere to plug in the sensor ? We need 4 ports per hub or y split-er, so we could do .... 1x motor 2x light 1x sensor (my passenger train) 2x motor 1x light 1x sensor (my emerald night) 2x motor 2x light We also need long and short extension cables please Lego ! Andy.
