Lego is almost all quality product. The build sets have awesome instructions. However ALL the new Power items need INSTRUCTIONS! Please take some time and provide at least basic Instructions.
Purchased as a birthday gift for my son who loves Power Functions. The intention was for him to create his own motorized builds. The app requires that you code each button on the remote within the app or set a simple code to make the motors run. There are no instructions included with the hub or within the app. I contacted Lego and was told there are no instructions and that there are third-party sites with some info. So after 2 hours of watching youtube videos we were able to get the two motors to run. There really needs to be some "how-to" code simple functions in order for kids to get started. I could see this being very fun for him if he had some guidance. Right now I think it is a pretty expensive brick added to our collection.
This product may work, but there are absolutely no instructions (including the ones listed from customer service at LEGO.build/Help-BV "Help with LEGO® Powered Up"). It was clear that I needed the app, and it connected and updated the firmware. But then what next? No tutorials or 'hello world' exist from LEGO. I created a project and added a red button. Now what? I can select a color, an address (no meaning whatsoever), and an icon. When I go next, it seems I could create some sort of a visual program, but none of the icons have any descriptions. I get that LEGO wants this to be useful regardless of someones native tongue, but some descriptions are clearly needed. This is totally abysmal and absurd. Also there are no guides whatsoever for the app. The help/FAQ from the app is only there to tell you what are the compatible LEGO products and mobile devices. Sad sad sad.
The Powered Up Move Hub did not come with any operation instructions and there are no official ones available online that I could find. We had to search around online for reviewers' comments to figure out how to pair the hub with the remote (88010). Weirdly, there ARE instructions provided illustrating how to install the batteries, in case you don't know how a screwdriver works. To pair the hub with the remote, press both the green button on the hub and the green button on the remote simultaneously. Just a press, not a hold. This did not seem to work at first but some combination of timing adjustments did eventually get it connected. After it connected the first time, it easily connected every time after that. To switch the A/B controls on the remote from controlling the A/B motors to controlling the C/D ports, press the green button on the remote. We were able to get the LED lights working this way, and the +/- buttons adjust the brightness of the lights. Once the lights are on, you can press the green button on the remote again to switch back to operating the motors, so you can drive with the lights on. Once we figured all this out (this info should have been provided with purchase!) we were happy to find that the hub and remote work great together and run exactly as we hoped they would. Excited to see what the kids come up with!
